River Fools & Mountain Saints is the follow-up to Noe’s lauded debut Between The Country. Boasting a bigger sound and brighter tone, it highlights Noe’s storytelling prowess through 12 country rockers and Appalachian ballads. On the surface, Prescription Fiction is a collection of songs that were written over the course of nearly a decade, but when put together, it tells the story of my mental health over that period. “Take a Pill” was completed first, and I remember writing the lyrics down so furiously that it was almost illegible. I’m fairly certain I was manic then, but that period of my life was so emotionally chaotic that I can’t be certain.

Eigenlijk nog verrassend veel later dan eveneens flink getroebleerde tijd- en genregenoten als Kurt Cobain en Layne Staley is zanger, songschrijver, auteur en muzikant Mark Lanegan (o.a. Screaming Trees en Queens Of The Stone Age) dinsdagochtend op 57-jarige leeftijd overleden in zijn huis in Killarney, Ierland. ..............

Na het beluisteren van dit weergaloos schijfje, begon ik te tokken wel vijf minuten lang. Ik begreep dat ik last had van kippenvel!
"Cathead Blues" was written in an hour while recording the "Howl At The Blues" album in 2006, when we needed songs to complete the project. I had a double abscess tooth going on causing terrible pounding pain, but we had to get the vocal done to deliver the album to pressing. So, I took 3 Advil, smoked one, and drank 4 shots of scotch. Put an ice pack on the recording desk, laid the SM57 on the desk, laid my face on the ice pack and sang this vocal in one take.

Het einde van Cuby & The Blizzards na het overlijden van Harry Muskee in 2011 deed gitarist Erwin Java besluiten om samen met drummer Fokke de Jong, zanger/bassist Ruud Weber en toetsenist Govert van der Kolm een nieuwe band op te richten. Dit werd King Of The World, vernoemd naar een nummer van John Lee Hooker en de drie Kings van de Blues: B.B., Albert en Freddie. De band had al snel een plaatsje aan de top van de Nederlandse blues verworven en heeft deze niet meer afgestaan. Inmiddels zijn we tien jaar, een aantal succesvolle albums en een personeelswisseling verder. Erwin en Fokke hebben de band verlaten en gekozen voor de bekende theatervoorstellingen van Johan Derksen. Hun plaatsen zijn ingenomen door de Belgische gitaarvirtuoos Stef Delbaere en drummer/zanger Marlon Pichel.

Micki Free is een gelauwerde Amerikaanse gitarist, die al zo’n kleine veertig jaar meedraait in de muziekscene. Hij is afstammeling van de Cherokee en Comanche native americans en Ierse immigranten. Hij werd op 20 mei 1955 geboren in West-Texas en verhuisde met zijn ouders mee naar Duitsland, waar zijn vader sergeant was in het Amerikaanse leger. Als 12-jarige ziet hij daar Jimi Hendrix optreden en wist meteen wat hij de rest van zijn leven wilde doen.
Procol Harum-voorman Gary Brooker (76) overleden aan kanker.
Zanger, pianist en songwriter Gary Brooker is op 76-jarige leeftijd overleden aan de gevolgen van kanker. De oprichter en voorman van de band Procol Harum stierf afgelopen zaterdag.
Oud-hoofdredacteur Frans Steensma van de OOR's Pop-encyclopedie bevestigt het overlijden van de Britse muzikant. De twee waren al tientallen jaren bevriend. "Ik heb al zijn werk op de voet gevolgd en als hij in Nederland was dan zorgden we ervoor dat we elkaar even zagen."

Pharmacose is a collaborative alternative rock project hailing from Jacksonville, FL, that combines steadfast analog sounds with cutting edge flair. The project — whose name is a portmanteau of “pharmaceutical” and “comatose” — consists primarily of Wes Jones on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Lucio Rubino on bass. Frequent collaborators include Kevin Horne on lead guitar and Alberto Cruz on drums. They have previously released material under the name Digital Array.

Deze musical over het ontstaan van de sigarendoos gitaar, was in het Dalfser theater De Stoomfabriek al 2 maal eerder door een enthousiast publiek geheel uitverkocht.

Een Engels/Amerikaans avontuur zou je het kunnen noemen, deze samenwerking tussen de Engelsman Martin Harley en de Amerikanen Daniel Kimbro en Sam Lewis. Het drietal is een zeer ervaren club muzikanten, die al flink hun sporen hebben verdiend. Martin Harley is letterlijk de hele wereld al over gereisd, deed mee aan ‘World’s Highest Gig’ in de Himalayas, toerde op de motor door zowel Mali als India en Nepal. Daniel Kimbro uit Knoxville (TN) speelde met o.m. John Hiatt, de Jerry Douglas Band, James Taylor en Alison Kraus en heeft een paar Grammy nominaties op zijn naam staan. En Sam Lewis uit Nashville (TN) speelde met Leon Russell en Chris Stapleton om er maar een paar te noemen.

Brandon Reeves is a Georgia based acoustic performer who uses original songs, story telling, fingerpicking guitar, foot tapping, and harmonica tooting to create his own blend of country, folk, and blues music. There's No Going Back is a reflection of what the world has experienced since March of 2020, and how Brandon Reeves has processed that personally. It's partly a pandemic album, and partly a recovery album. It's partly a look at what has been lost and wasted, and partly a look at how we can move forward.

De 82-jarige Dion DiMucci kan met recht een veteraan worden genoemd. In 1957 begonnen als zanger bij de Belmonts met doo-wop en pop, kwam in de zeventiger met christelijke muziek en dook in 2000 op met een bluesalbum. Hij werd toen verguisd als voormalig popsterretje, die een graantje mee wilde pikken van de populariteit van de blues. Critici werden al snel stil toen zij zijn werk hoorden. Ook collega-artiesten toonden hun waardering door op albums of tijdens optredens mee te doen. In 2020 verscheen het goed ontvangen “Blues With Friends” waar, zoals de titel al verraadt, hij medewerking krijgt van een aantal collega’s.

Greg Copeland is in juli 1954 geboren in Portsmouth (Virginia), en woont al ruim dertig jaar in Duitsland. Zijn zangstijl is sterk beïnvloed door James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Robert Johnson, Howlin´ Wolf e.d. en muzikaal zit hij dan ook ergens tussen de Deep Down Blues, soul en funk. Hij heeft samengewerkt met o.m. Gerry Williams (ex-Eruption), en de blues gitaristen Gregor Hilden, Guitar Crusher en Kai Strauss. Daarnaast heeft hij zijn eigen band en maakt hij met Martin Messing deel uit van het akoestische bluesduo Deep Down South.
