BLUES ICON CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE RECEIVES 2022 FRENCH CHARLES CROS ACADEMY GRAND PRIX BLUES AWARD On December 15, 2022, blues icon Charlie Musselwhite was honored with the coveted Charles Cros Academy Grand Prix Blues Award for his Grammy Award-nominated Alligator Records album, Mississippi Son. The Grand Prix Awards for Jazz, Blues and Soul Favorites were announced on France Musique (French national radio) on Alex Dutilh's Open Jazz show. Tommy Castro zal weinig introductie behoeven in de bluesscene. De in 1955 in San Jose, California geboren bluesman heeft er al een flinke carriere opzitten, grossiert in Blues Awards en maakte o.a. albums voor Telarc en Blind Pig voordat hij in 2009 bij Alligator Records tekende. Het vorig jaar verschenen album “A Bluesman Came To Town” is inmiddels zijn zevende album voor het label dat als een van de meest gerenommeerde blueslabels ter wereld mag worden gezien.
In september komt Tommy Castro met zijn band The Painkillers naar de Benelux.

Winners have been announced for the 2022 Blues Music Awards, which are voted on by the Blues Foundation.
Tommy Castro was the big winner of the evening earning three BMA’s including “Album of the Year,” “B.B. King Entertainer of the Year,” and “Band of the Year.”
Fresh off his Grammy win, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram captured “Contemporary Blues Album” and “Contemporary Blues Male Artist.”
In the Blues Rock categories, Mike Zito wins “Blues Rock Album” with Resurrection and Albert Castiglia earned “Blues Rock Artist.”

Nominaties Blues Music Awards bekend
Een indrukwekkende verzameling bluesmuziekmeesters, variërend van Blues Hall of Famers tot rijzende sterren, zal op donderdag 5 mei in Memphis bijeenkomen voor de 43e jaarlijkse Blues Music Awards. De BMA's, gepresenteerd door The Blues Foundation, eren de uitzonderlijke prestaties van het afgelopen jaar op het gebied van het opnemen, uitvoeren en schrijven van bluesmuziek, en ter ondersteuning van de bluesrijke culturele tradities. Deze feestelijke avond wordt internationaal erkend omdat het belangrijkste evenement van de blueswereld genomineerden naar de stad brengt en velen op het podium om op te treden.
Het evenement vindt plaats in het Renasant Convention Center van Memphis, (255 North Main Street), waar een blauwe loper naar het theater leidt. De pre-show Blue Carpet begint om 17.00 uur. Tickets variëren van individuele stoelen voor $ 150 tot Premium-tafels (stoelen 10) voor $ 1800. De kaartverkoop is nu geopend en kan worden gekocht door hier te klikken .
