Denemarken lijkt misschien niet de logische broedplaats voor een bluesband, maar zeg dat maar eens tegen Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado! Oprichter Risager groeide op met twee muziekleraren als ouders; het was raar geweest als hij zelf níet meerdere instrumenten had opgepakt. Hij ontdekte als late tiener de muziek van B.B. King en Ray Charles en zong al tijden de blues toen hij werd aangenomen op het conservatorium in Kopenhagen.

Buddy Guy wil dat de muziekindustrie de blues niet langer 'als een stiefkind' behandelt Terwijl hij zijn 87e verjaardag nadert en aan zijn afscheidstournee begint, denkt de gitaarpionier na over het verleden, het heden en de toekomst van de blues.

Bluesrocker Seasick Steve hoorde ze ooit op een festival spelen toen hij backstage net wakker werd en dacht even dat hij luisterde naar the Allman Brothers in 1972. Maar nee, het waren ‘gewoon’ deze Limburgers. DeWolff gaat inmiddels al 17 jaar mee en werd gevormd toen de drie bandleden nog tieners waren. Robin Piso en de broers Luka en Pablo van de Poel vormen een vuurspuwend, Hammond-aangedreven powertrio.

De Britse zangeres Kyla Brox kreeg muziek met de paplepel ingegoten als dochter van blueszanger Victor Brox. Ze stond voor het eerst naast haar vader op het podium op haar twaalfde, en ging een jaar later mee op tournee met zijn band Blues Train. Grappig genoeg vond ze daar ook haar toekomstige echtgenoot Danny Blomeley, die nu in haar band speelt. Kyla zelf maakte naam als een blues- en soulzangeres en werd al omschreven als ‘de beste vrouwelijke bluesvocalist van haar generatie’ en zelfs ‘het Britse antwoord op Aretha Franklin’. Dat zijn nog eens complimenten! Brox won zowel de UK als de Europe Blues Challenge en werd uitgeroepen tot Beste Zangeres bij de European Blues Awards in 2019. Tot nu toe bracht ze vijf studioalbums uit.

The video features Beaux Gris Gris’ herself, front-woman Greta Valenti, singing the blues-rock stomper, while performing a series of stunts alongside Los Angeles stunt men and women. From flying and doing barrel rolls in a harness while being ripped back and forth to a martial arts fight scene to being set on fire, she does it all.

In the midst of leg one of their 2024 tour, Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks today premiere the video for the song “Shine On”, the first single from their forthcoming album “TRUE” which will be released on August 23rd. The video was filmed in New Jersey before the start of the tour and directed by Tom Flynn. The song has been performed nightly on the tour and has received universal positive response.

Additionally, the full album is available today for preorder on all DSPs and streaming services. Last May we travelled to Muscle Shoals, Alabama (USA) to record our 10th studio album with Grammy Award winning producer Ben Tanner at two legendary studios: FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Heroes like Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, the Stones, Leon Russell, the Black Keys and hundreds of other legendary artists recorded world-renowned albums at these studios.

You can really feel some kind of rock 'n roll magic in the air there. Right when we played our first notes there we got goosebumps: here was that sound we've been hearing on all those classic albums! This definitely was one of the best recording experiences we've ever had. Even the grand piano Leon Russell used was still there, just like the electric Wurlitzer piano that was used on "I Never Loved A Man" by Aretha Franklin.
