TOP-3 DUTCH BLUES CD AWARDS 2021 BEKEND

Cd's die uit zijn gekomen tussen 1 januari en 31 december 2021 konden aangemeld worden voor de Dutch Blues CD Award 2021. De cd's werden beoordeeld door de cd-jury en gedraaid op de radio-stations.

Deze jury bestaat uit presentatoren van blues radioprogramma's en recensenten. De cd's worden beoordeeld in vier categorieën: bluesinhoud, mix, originaliteit/eigen geluid en algemene indruk. De drie cd's met de meeste punten zijn de cd's waar het publiek zijn stem op mag uitbrengen.

Bluesfestival Hoogeveen: Tamboer

 De kleine editie van het Bluesfestival kon in 2021 helaas niet doorgaan. Het goede nieuws is dat we in mei 2022 terug zijn met een groot, volwaardig festival. Vier podia, tien fantastische bluesacts. Wij kunnen niet wachten! En met headliner Ten Years After belooft het een grandioze vijftiende editie te worden! Ook Deborah Bonham Band, Jo Harman, Thomas Toussaint Band, Rob Tognoni en Emily Hill staan op het programma. Meer bands volgen nog.

Sonescent, the new album from Matchess, came to Whitney Johnson’s mind while she was at the Dhamma Vaddhana Meditation Center just north of Joshua Tree, during a course of Vipassana meditation. This is a ten day period that requires, among other codes of discipline, the practice of Noble Silence: silence of body, speech, and mind.

Het is met pijn in het hart dat we het overlijden van Blues Legend Jimmy Johnson aankondigen op deze dag 31 januari 2022. Echtgenoot, vader, broer, mentor en vriend, Jimmy was een ongelooflijke man die een buitengewoon leven leidde.
Jimmy was vriendelijk, genereus, grappig, slim, liefdevol, slim en uitzonderlijk getalenteerd.

Life’s Machine is the stunning debut album from Portsmouth-based five-piece rock, blues, and soul band Brave Rival featuring the hypnotic lead vocals of Lindsey Bonnick and Chloe Josephine.

Recorded in the picturesque Surrey countryside at The Mayfair Studio. The band enlisted the talents of record producer and engineer Tarrant Shepherd, an up-and-coming maestro of the control room who cut his teeth with Brit Award winning producer Greg Haver and award- winning multi-platinum producer and engineer Clint Murphy.

Het publiek werd al in oktober lekker gemaakt met het uitbrengen van de single “I Want My Crown” en diverse filmpjes op YouTube. Op de single speelt hij samen met zijn maatje Joe Bonamassa. Het toeval wilde dat beiden ooit als wonderkinderen werden gezien. Gales bracht zijn eerste album al 16-jarige leeftijd uit. Maar terwijl Bonamassa roem vergaarde verging het Gales wat minder goed. In 2009 belandde hij zelfs in de gevangenis voor het bezit van verdovende middelen en een wapen. Gelukkig heeft hij de kracht gevonden zich terug te vechten en inmiddels werkt hij zich naar de top van de blueswereld toe.

De uit Pittsburgh, PA, afkomstige Pierce Dipner is een nog piepjonge bluesman en multi-instrumentalist. Als achtjarige begon hij met gitaar spelen, op zijn negen speelde hij ook bas, drums en cello. Toen hij elf jaar oud was ontdekte hij de blues en op zijn dertiende trad hij al op tijdens de 2017 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, waar hij twee jaar later weer voor werd gevraagd. In 2018 vormde hij zijn eerste band, Pierce Dipner and the Shades of Blue, waarmee hij zijn eerste EP uitbracht.

 Een band als Sweet Bourbon hoeft eigenlijk niet meer voorgesteld te worden. Opgericht begin 2014 verscheen een jaar later een eerste live-cd, in 2017 gevolgd door debuutalbum “Night Turned Into Day” en in 2020 “Born A Rebel”. Positieve reacties hierop en optredens in binnen- en buitenland zorgden dat de band een vaste positie in de Nederlandse wist te veroveren en vast te houden. De band bestaat uit Chris Janssen (gitaar), René van Onna (zang, gitaar), Willem van der Schoof (toetsen, harmonica), Roeland van Laer (bas), Jos Vink (drums), Suzan Wattimena (zang), Laura van der Vange (zang) en Henny Oudesluijs (percussie, ukelele, zang).

 George Gritzbach is een zeer ervaren blueszanger en –gitarist, afkomstig uit Waquoit, Massachusetts. Met zijn band heeft hij in het voorprogramma gespeeld van artiesten als B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray om er maar een paar te noemen. Zijn muziek heeft hen door heel de VS, Canada en Europa gebracht.
