Het publiek werd al in oktober lekker gemaakt met het uitbrengen van de single “I Want My Crown” en diverse filmpjes op YouTube. Op de single speelt hij samen met zijn maatje Joe Bonamassa. Het toeval wilde dat beiden ooit als wonderkinderen werden gezien. Gales bracht zijn eerste album al 16-jarige leeftijd uit. Maar terwijl Bonamassa roem vergaarde verging het Gales wat minder goed. In 2009 belandde hij zelfs in de gevangenis voor het bezit van verdovende middelen en een wapen. Gelukkig heeft hij de kracht gevonden zich terug te vechten en inmiddels werkt hij zich naar de top van de blueswereld toe.
Met “Crown” zet hij in ieder geval flinke stappen in die richting. De productie van het album was in handen van Josh Smith en zijn oude maatje Bonamassa. Op het album staan zestien nummers, waarin Gales vertelt over zijn persoonlijke emoties en zijn kijk op de wereld. Hij bewijst eens te meer dat hij naast een uitstekende en expressieve gitarist ook nog eens een prima componist en tekstschrijver is. Een voorbeeld hiervan is “The Storm”, waarin hij beschrijft toch een heel andere persoon te zijn dan hij door het publiek wordt gezien. Een nummer met gitaarwerk in de stijl van Albert King. “Survivor” gaat over de rassenongelijkheid in de VS. Andere nummers die een speciale vermelding verdienen zijn “Too Close To The Fire” met Hendrix-achtige riffs, “You Don’t Know The Blues”, waarin hij vertelt dat je de Blues pas kent als je diep in de ellende hebt gezeten (gevangenis, dakloos), “Take Me Just As I Am”, waarin zijn vrouw LaDonna zingt, en de prachtige akoestische ballad “I Found Her”, dat fel en elektrisch naar een hoogtepunt werkt.
Eric Gales heeft met “Crown” een prachtig en zeer persoonlijk album gemaakt. Een juweeltje.
