Some years ago I happened to see Paul Thorn performing on an outdoor stage at a street festival in the heart of a small Mississippi town. Suddenly, in mid song, Thorn stopped playing and looked down at the upturned, sugar-splattered face of a fan on the front row. “I sure would like me a funnel cake,” Thorn announced. The crowd exploded with laughter. By the end of the next song, someone in the audience had responded, and soon Thorn was happily munching on the doughy confection.
The CD was recorded at Sam Phillips Studio in Memphis and produced and engineered by Grammy winning wunderkind Matt Ross-Spang.

Ushering in a new generation of classic southern rock steeped in soul and the blues, The Georgia Thunderbolts have already been called “timeless” by American Songwriter, “your new favorite southern rock band” by Classic Rock, and proof that “southern rock continues to thrive in the 21st century” by Rolling Stone. Now, fresh off a performance at Paste and in the wake of a hometown feature in Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Georgia Thunderbolts are set to release their debut full-length album, ‘Can We Get A Witness,’ out October 15th via Mascot Records. A vinyl edition of the album, with bonus track “Better Run From The Beast,” will be out November 26th.
De Stöppelhaene gaat ook in aangepaste vorm niet door dit jaar. Die beslissing heeft het bestuur van het jaarlijkse feest in Raalte genomen. Organisatorisch en financieel zijn er te grote risico's om te gokken op doorgang van het evenement eind augustus. Bij voorzitter Paul Wittenhorst zakt de moed in de schoenen. ,,We gaan nu eerst flink balen, en we zien daarna verder.’’
Enkele weken geleden was het nog hosanna in Raalte. Het jaarlijkse feest kon doorgaan in aangepaste vorm. Op een afgesloten terrein met toegangsbewijzen moest het lukken om het Raalter feest weer te vieren. Nu is de organisatie gedwongen om de stekker er alsnog uit te trekken, nadat de overheid tot verscherping van coronamaatregelen overging vanwege het oplopende aantal besmettingen in Nederland.
De gitarist J effrey Philip LaBar , bekend als de gitarist van de Amerikaanse glam metal- en hardrockband Cinderella , is op 14 juli 2021 plotseling en onverwacht overleden.
Jeff trad toe tot de band, die drie jaar eerder was opgericht, in 1985 en verving Michael Schermick , die de band had verlaten . Jeff kwam zelf uit de band White-Foxx . De band ging in 1995 uit elkaar, maar kwam weer bij elkaar en toerde in 1998 door de VS. Jeff leidde ook de band Naked Beggars met bassist Eric Brittingham , die hij in 2007 verliet.
In 2014 bracht hij zijn eerste soloalbum uit, "One For The Road". Jef was 58 jaar oud.

Door Covid 19 werd hun Lee Bains III tour gecanceld. Dus de broers togen op naar Water Valley, Mississippi, om hun oude vriend Matt Patton (Dexateens en DBT) te bezoeken in zijn Dial Back Sound Studio. Dat leidde al gauw naar wat opnames van een partij fraaie nummers, die nu op dit debuut schijfje (LP komt in september) staan. Het klinkt lekker rauw met een Southern Rock feel wat herinneringen oproept van de vroege Drive-By Truckers en wat the Dexateens zo kenmerkten....
Douwe Bob en De Amer: a match made in heaven. Ook deze zomer heeft een van de meest populaire singer-songwriters van Nederland twee dagen in zijn drukke concertagenda gevonden om in de tuin van De Amer te spelen. Samen met Maurice van Hoek is hij 19 en 20 augustus op ons openluchtpodium te vinden. Je kunt er bij zijn!

Bijna alle tuinconcerten van deze maand zijn uitverkocht, er zijn op dit moment alleen nog enkele kaarten voor Massada beschikbaar. Dat smaakt naar meer! Daarom hebben De Tamboer en Het Podium vier nieuwe concerten bijgeboekt in september.
Het Podium en De Tamboer hebben vier nieuwe tuinconcerten bevestigd: in september komen Blaudzun, Her Majesty, Michelle David & the True-tones en The Bruceband naar Hoogeveen. Kom genieten van heerlijke livemuziek, lekkere hapjes en drankjes en gezelligheid in de sfeervolle tuin van het theater. Er is beperkte capaciteit, dus wees er snel bij! De kaartverkoop is gestart. Eerder was er al een kinderpopconcert van Dirk Scheele bevestigd. De vorige tuinconcerten in september en juli, met onder meer Def Americans, The Fortunate Sons, The Kik, Van Dik Hout en Frank Boeijen, waren binnen no time uitverkocht.

De recente zorgelijke ontwikkelingen rondom de opleving van het coronavirus in heel Nederland en de rest van Europa en de daarbij gepaarde nieuwe maatregelen treffen ook het recent aangekondigde en gratis toegankelijke Summer Square op het evenementenplein in Hengelo. De uiteenlopende culturele activiteiten, met iedere dag een andere organisator en doelgroep, zouden verspreid over 9 dagen plaatsvinden tussen 6 tot en met 22 augustus, inclusief het horecaterras dat op 1,5 meter afstand, omheind en seated is opgesteld, komen daarmee volledig te vervallen.
Dit is opnieuw een tegenvaller voor de Hengelose organisatoren, maar zeker ook voor de inwoners en de centrumondernemers, die al zoveel te verduren hebben gehad.
