Bernard Allison werd geboren als bluesman in hart en nieren. Hoe kan het ook anders, als zoon van de Amerikaanse bluesgitarist Luther Allison. Hij kwam daardoor vroeg in aanraking met grootheden als Muddy Waters, Albert King en Hound Dog Taylor. Als kind was hij onafscheidelijk van zijn gitaar. Op het Chicago Blues Festival 1983 maakte hij als 18-jarige meteen indruk, waar hij optrad als zijn vaders gast.
