Artiest/Band: Heather Anne Lomax
|
There are records that sound polished — and then there are records that feel alive. Heather Anne Lomax’s new album belongs firmly in the latter category.
The project was born from a moment of unexpected clarity at Los Angeles’ legendary Troubadour. Fresh off the release of her previous record, Lomax slipped into a pair of songs by cult L.A. rock band The Broken Homes during her set — and something shifted. What followed was the creation of a raw, emotionally charged Rock & Roll album that fuses Blues, Soul, and classic rock swagger into something timeless, cathartic, and deeply personal.
Recorded live at Love Street Studios in Los Angeles, the album captures the unfiltered energy and spontaneity of the great 1970s records — full-band performances crackling with chemistry, grit, and heart. Produced by Zachary Ross (Rose’s Pawn Shop), and mixed by Jason Hiller, the sessions brought together an extraordinary cast of musicians whose credits span Leonard Cohen, Kacey Musgraves, Grace Potter, Bruce Springsteen, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Tanya Tucker, and more.
While the album channels the spirit of artists like Linda Ronstadt, The Rolling Stones, and Maria McKee, Lomax’s voice remains singular — powerful, vulnerable, and rooted in emotional honesty. One especially poignant moment comes in the form of a song written by her late friend Michael Doman of The Broken Homes, whose music helped spark the entire project.
There’s real history behind the music, too. Adopted at birth, Lomax later discovered a biological lineage deeply tied to American music and storytelling, including famed ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax. Reclaiming her birth name became part of reclaiming her artistic identity — and this album feels like the fullest expression of that journey yet.
This is Rock & Roll with soul, scars, and conviction — loud enough to shake the walls, honest enough to break your heart.
Who Do You Think You Are will be released on August 28th via The Blackbird Record Label.
