De Amerikaanse gitaarlegende Slash (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators) brengt op vrijdag 17 mei zijn nieuwe album 'Orgy Of The Damned' uit bij platenlabel Gibson Records, met daarop covers van blues classics die hij eigenhandig heeft geselecteerd. Vandaag dropt Slash daarvan de tweede single 'Oh Well', een cover van Fleetwood Mac (geschreven door zanger-gitarist Peter Alan Green) uit 1969. Slash's cover wordt gezongen door singer-songwriter, gitarist en record producer Chris Stapleton. Hieronder staat de video 'Oh Well' van Slash en zijn bluesband, bestaande uit Johnny Griparic (bas), Teddy Andreadis (keyboards), Michael Jerome (drums) en Tash Neal (zang/gitaar).

Slash: "So, this is the original Fleetwood Mac, which was founded by Peter Green, one of the greatest singer-songwriter-guitar players. he’s less known in the public, but very well known to us guitar players re the 60s British blues and he’s up there with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Nick Taylor. He sort of had a misadventure with drugs and disappeared early in his career, but he had some great fucking songs and ‘Oh Well’ is one of my favorites. I remember hearing the song on the radio when I was probably 13, they used to play both the older version of Fleetwood Mac and the new version of the band with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham a lot."

"I always loved this song, and it’s a great guitar riff. I jammed it with the Blues Ball back in the ‘90s, and I've played it live here and there. I knew from the beginning I wanted to do the song on this record. It was also one of the songs that I was trying to figure out who would be the right vocalist for it, and one of the ideas I had was Chris Stapleton, who is one of the most brilliant singer songwriters today. He's also got such a gritty and distinctive voice, so I called him up and he did an amazing job. I mean, his voice is so cool."

Als groot bluesliefhebber permitteerde Slash zich bij het maken van dit hoorbaar met veel liefde gemaakte solo-album alle vrijheid (waardoor hij alle ruimte neemt om als gitarist te excelleren met adembenemende soli) en liet hij zich leiden door het grote respect en de bewondering voor zijn blueshelden die hij met dit album wil eren. 'Orgy Of The Damned' bevat 12 tracks waarvan de laatste -' Metal Chestnut' - een door Slash speciaal voor dit album geschreven instrumental is. Voor de overige elf songs vroeg hij evenzoveel van zijn favoriete zangers en zangeressen (zie de tracklist + gastzangers (M/V) verder onderaan). 'Orgy Of The Damned' laat een minder bekende kant van Slash's muzikale kunnen zien. Hoewel hij altijd al een brede waaier aan stijlen en genres heeft omarmd, biedt het album een inkijkje in zijn vroege inspiratiebronnen en huidige fascinaties. In plaats van op te nemen met zijn kenmerkende muur van versterkers, hield hij het heel basic, met een kleine combo versterker en een paar oude gitaren. Dit gaf hem de kans om een unieke kant van zijn gitaarspel te verkennen.

Afgelopen dinsdagavond, 9 april gaven SLASH ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators (SMKC) een show in de Amsterdamse Ziggo Dome, als onderdeel van 'The River Is Rising' wereldtournee 2024 ter promotie van Slash's meest recente studioalbum '4' dat in 2022 via Gibson Records verscheen. Op vrijdag 26 april 2024 a.s. keert de band terug naar de Benelux voor een tweede show, en wel in Rockhal te Esch/Alzette in Luxemburg (met Mammoth WVH [Wolfgang van Halen] als support act. De lopende wereldtournee voert SMKC naar Zuid-Amerikaanse, Japanse en Europese podia, met in totaal 21 landen en 32 steden.
