“We bring blues lovers back together again in this area”
Back in the winter of 2022, whilst sat on a beach somewhere hot, I received this message “ Sean, you live in Giethoorn and I think a blues festival with the title “Sean Webster International Blues festival “ held in De Meenthe would be a great idea. Interested?…… Call me, Han Evers “
Wow, was my first thought, a blues festival held in my name at a great location, I have to investigate further. So we arranged a meeting and the birth of the festival was born. Han graciously gave me a fantastic budget and said that I have full control over who plays, and the running of the whole day. Basically the festival is completely down to me. Well, Han also gave me all of his resources to utilise, so its at this point I must mention the wonderful Monique de Boer who throughout this journey has been my right hand person. She has helped at every stage, and without her this would not have been possible.
After securing an explosive line up for the festival, I spoke with Mr television himself, Mr Johan Derksen who when asked if he could help in anyway, suggested that he come for the whole day and introduce the bands for the 2 main stages.
I am really looking forward to the festival, not only because I am playing myself in my own “ back garden “ but also the chance to bring blues lovers back together again in this area, and with a guitar stand ( where the public can try out guitars ) various food and drinks areas, a top class line-up and the amazing Johan Derksen around for the whole day, this promises to put Steenwijk back on the blues map of Holland where it belongs. – Sean Webster
