Annika Andersson (v/h Salminen) is een van oorsprong Finse zangeres, die in haar thuisland al in de zeventiger succes had met diverse bands en diverse soorten muziek, variërend van Finse schlager tot progressieve rock. Daarbij was haar eerst liefde de blues en bluesrock. Op een gegeven verhuisde ze naar Zweden en besloot ze zich te concentreren op de bluesrock en blues. Met de band Blues Alone bracht ze in 2016 een EP uit.

Haar debuutalbum “Reborn” met haar huidige band, The Boiling Blues Band stamt al weer van 2019, maar mede vanwege een bezoek aan ons land, dat is gepland in november (Concert For Dreams, Dinxperlo), vond ik dat ik wel wat aandacht kon geven aan deze zangeres. Op het album staan elf nummers, waarvan acht originals, die door haar broer Jari Salminen zijn geschreven. De band bestaat naast Annika uit Johan Östergård (gitaar), Ola Göransson (drums) en Morgan Korsmoe (bas). De aftrap wordt gedaan door “20 Miles North”, een stevige bluesrocker, waarin Annika meteen laat horen wat zij als zangeres in huis heeft. In nummers als “Looking Out My Window”, “Ball And Chain” en “Saleswoman Blues” toont broer Jarni dat hij een prima componist is en laat de band het beste van zich horen. Fraai zijn ook de covers “Mississippi Queen” van Leslie West en “Rock ’n Roll Hootchie Koo” van Rick Derringer. Een prima album van een uitstekende Zweedse band. Ik ben erg benieuwd naar het geplande in november, ik ben er in ieder geval bij.

Annika Andersson (f/h Salminen) is a singer of Finnish origin, who already had success in her home country in the seventies with various bands and various types of music, ranging from Finnish schlager to progressive rock. Her first love was blues and blues rock though. At some point she moved to Sweden and decided to focus on blues rock and blues. In 2016 she released an EP with the band Blues Alone.

Her debut album “Reborn” with her current band, The Boiling Blues Band, dates back to 2019, but partly because of a visit to our country, which is planned in November, I thought I should give this singer some attention. The album contains eleven songs, eight of which are originals, written by her brother Jari Salminen. Besides Annika, the band consists of Johan Östergård (guitar), Ola Göransson (drums) and Morgan Korsmoe (bass). The kick-off is done by “20 Miles North”, a solid blues rocker, in which Annika immediately shows what she has to offer as a singer. In songs like “Looking Out My Window”, “Ball And Chain” and “Saleswoman Blues” brother Jarni shows that he is a great composer and the band shows its best. Also beautiful are the covers “Mississippi Queen” by Leslie West and “Rock 'n Roll Hootchie Koo” by Rick Derringer. A fine album by an excellent Swedish band.
