 In early 2023 John Heussenstamm and Jon Garner began discussing doing a blues project together. The idea began to slowly take shape and a gig was secured for August 27 at Our Place in Lake Forest, CA.

Heussenstamm is a world-class guitarist and educator whose instructional videos have received millions of views on YouTube. He toured with Denise Williams and many others, has written several Hal Leonard instruction books, and was the original lead guitarist in the Surf Punks. Even with his diversity of styles and experiences, the blues has always been John's first love and he has been widely respected as a great blues guitarist for decades. He and Jon Garner met at a jam session in 2019. Garner had heard John before and relished the opportunity to play with him, which they did on several occasions. 

Fast forward to 2023 and the gig. They decided to call it the John Heussenstamm Blues Band, because that's what it is. Garner secured Dave Kaplan and Bobby Breton as the rhythm section. John had never played with either before the gig. As it turns out, the two highly experienced and flexible rhythm players were a perfect fit for John's improvisational style. Garner's experience and instincts enable him to capably mesh with Heussenstamm in a complementary role.

At the very first gig it was obvious to all four players that something special was happening. The talent, synergy and camaraderie among them were evident from the first note. After the gig the four decided to only take gigs when all four were available. No subs! Heussenstamm was so impressed that he decided to personally record the second gig and mix and produce the resulting music. The playing and audio are both stunning. 

The Orphan Boy CD is a live, spontaneous show with studio-quality audio. Nothing on the CD was added, subtracted or tweaked. This is exactly how the John Heussenstamm Blues Band sounds in person, and they hope to build on this success.
