R&b-zanger D'Angelo (51) overleden aan alvleesklierkanker

De Amerikaanse r&b-zanger D'Angelo is op 51-jarige leeftijd overleden. De zanger, wiens echte naam Michael Eugene Archer is, stierf aan de gevolgen van alvleesklierkanker, heeft zijn familie laten weten.

De artiest brak in 1995 op 21-jarige leeftijd door met het album Brown Sugar. Hij maakte vijf jaar daarna zijn tweede album, Voodoo. Na het grote succes van dit album trok hij zich terug uit het openbare én muzikale leven............►►►

Op zaterdag 1 november vindt in Groningen de 27e editie plaats van americanafestival TakeRoot. Met het half Iers/half Amerikaanse folkduo DUG en het Gronings/Amsterdamse country- en bluegrassgezelschap Timo de Jong & Leadbeaters zijn er nog twee acts aan de line-up toegevoegd. Nieuw is ook de vertoning van ‘Spoke’, een muziekdocumentaire over de legendarische honky tonk bar Broken Spoke in Austin van de Amerikaanse auteur, fotograaf, filmmaker en docent Henry Horenstein. TakeRoot trekt jaarlijks zo’n 3000 bezoekers uit binnen- en buitenland en was in 2024, net als vele eerdere edities, stijf uitverkocht. Het is het grootste en langstlopende indoor festival in zijn soort van Europa, ook dit jaar kunnen duizenden liefhebbers weer genieten van optredens van meer dan twintig internationale artiesten verdeeld over zes podia in De Oosterpoort. ..........►►►
