Alligator Records founder and president Bruce Iglauer was feted last night (11/16) in the nation’s capital by Illinois Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM). RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier, A2IM president and CEO Dr. Richard James Burgess and founding partner of Exceleration Music, Glen Barros (with whom Alligator Records joined forces in 2021), also honored the label chief in their remarks. The private event acknowledging Alligator's role in the cultural impact of Blues music was hosted at the RIAA’s state-of-the-art headquarters in partnership with A2IM and Exceleration Music, who welcomed the music community, members of Congress and staff.

Eric Demmer' - So Fine

Everything Is "So Fine" on Saxman Eric Demmer's Debut CD from Gulf Coast Records, Coming on November 18

Gulf Coast Records announces the signing of Texas-based sax great Eric Demmer, and will release his label debut CD, So Fine, on November 18. Backing the sax work and vocals of the blues/soul/rock veteran are a cadre of solid all-star players, along with such special guest as Gulf Coast Records main man Mike Zito, plus guitarists Jonn Del Toro Richardson, Mark May, and The Funky Rick Marcel; the Grooveline Horns; with added vocals by Melanie Covington, Darrell Lacy and Eric’s daughter, Danielle, whose funky vocals show this apple did not fall far away from the Demmer tree. So Fine was produced by Mike Zito and Eric Demmer, with mixing and mastering done by Ernie Wells of Eighth Note Productions.

Jan James in Nederland In de negentiger jaren vierde ze al successen met albums als “Last Train”, “Soul Desire” en “Color Of The Rose” op het gerenommeerde Provogue label. Decennia later is Jan James er nog steeds en heeft ze inmiddels een forse catalogus opgebouwd. 

Ze vertolkte ooit de rol van Janis Joplin, deelde podia met artiesten als B.B. King, James Brown en John Mayall en is nog steeds een zangeres om rekening mee te houden. In het voorjaar van 2023 verschijnt haar twaalfde album.

This American singer/harp player is “That all- too-rare total package – a creative vocalist, harp player, songwriter and showman” (Living Blues Magazine) and played with Anson Funderburgh, Pinetop Perkins, Gary Primich, Mike Keller, Johnny Moeller en Nick Curran. The result is an EP with songs by Greg, played by Greg with Ticket West and drummer Peter ten Wolde.

Zijn singles worden gedraaid op 3FM, Sublime, Soul & Jazz en zijn show in de Melkweg eerder dit jaar was binnen no time uitverkocht. Ook komt hij steeds meer in de spotlight bij buitenlandse pers, zoals dit artikel in The Rolling Stone. 

Joesef groeide op in Glasgow waar hij als jonge queer en echte fashionista opgroeide.“De kinderen uit de buurt lachte mij eerder om mijn schoenen uit dan om het feit dat ik homo was.” Het ontwikkelen van zijn seksuele geaardheid en alles wat daar mee te maken heeft, beschrijft hij in zijn muziek. Inmiddels woont Joesef in het bruisende Londen waar hij een boegbeeld voor de LHBTIQ+ community is en laat hij zichzelf en zijn karakter graag zien doormiddel van zijn kleding.

Na 6 jaar, 3 albums, veel shows, vele kilometers, blaren en gebroken snaren heeft Electric Hollers besloten om te stoppen. Maar niet voordat de band nog een keer in Leeuwarden speelt! Op zaterdag 19 november presenteert de band een veelzijdig eigen festival in Neushoorn onder de naam ‘HollersFest’.

In Memoriam: Keith Levene (The Clash)

The Clash-oprichter Keith Levene (65) overleden

De Britse gitarist Keith Levene is vrijdag op 65-jarige leeftijd overleden. Levene was onder meer de oprichter van de punkband The Clash. Volgens Britse media kampte hij al twee jaar met leverkanker.

Levene was een van de invloedrijkste gitaristen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. In de jaren zeventig richtte hij samen met gitarist Mick Jones The Clash op.
