Rising from the club scene in Montreal as a teen, Senja Sargeant signed her first major record deal at 26 with her country band, Ladies of the Canyon. The all-female quartet quickly gained notoriety and a dedicated following, garnering award nominations from Radio Music Canada as well as from the Canadian Country Music Association for their singles “Follow Me Down” and “Maybe Baby” - both written by Sargeant. Senja toured extensively with the group through Canada, the USA, and Europe, sharing the stage with renowned acts such as fellow Canadians: Broken Social Scene, The Dears, Andy Kim, and Ron Sexsmith, and opening for legends like Kenny Rogers, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Alan Jackson, Lhasa de Sela, and Great Big Sea.

Op zondag 2 oktober vindt in de Rustende Jager in Nieuw-Vennep de Dutch Blues Challenge 2022 plaats, georganiseerd door de Dutch Blues Foundation. Na twee jaar stilte kan het blues-evenement weer van start.

De Dutch Blues Foundation is inmiddels ruim tien jaar bezig met het promoten van Nederlandse blues. De jaarlijkse Dutch Blues Challenge is een evenement waarvan de winnaars vervolgens deelnemen aan de International Blues Challenge in Memphis en de European Blues Challenge in een steeds wisselend Europees land. Bluesmuzikanten krijgen hierdoor een duwtje in de rug naar meer bekendheid en een opstap naar de grotere (inter)nationale podia. Afgelopen mei won de Nederlandse band Harlem Lake de European Blues Challenge in het Zweedse Malmö.

Ticket West is een Nederlandse bluesformatie opgebouwd rond de gebroeders Wilhelm: gitarist Pascal en bassist Walter. Hun interesse in de blues werd door hun vader gewekt in 1984, toen de broers 14 en 11 jaar oud waren. En die interesse is in de loop van de jaren alleen maar gegroeid. De bandnaam Ticket West verwijst naar hun stijl van spelen, namelijk de Westcoast blues, zoals we die kennen van T-Bone Walker, Pee Wee Crayton en Rod Piazza, om er maar een paar te noemen.
