Nelson Blanchard Nelson Blanchard was born on January 13, 1953. At the tender age of 10, he was already a performer in clubs with The Richard Brothers, a popular local group from the Pierre Part, LA area (Nelson's birthplace). He studied music throughout elementary and high school, playing in special state and district bands (including the Governor's Honor Band). He studied music education at LSU and Nicholls State University.
