“My Captain” is the second single from Kendall Street Company’s upcoming folk album, Yodeling Astroman, coming out in October via Gitcha Records.
While the first single “Don’t Wanna Be Gone”▲ turns inward towards a longing for home, “My Captain” explores themes of escape and adventure gone wrong, only to come to the same conclusion. This song features distorted electric guitar and intense saxophone by Jake Vanaman, symbolizing a ship’s horn and the chaos at sea. Inspired by reading Herman Melville’s great-American novel Moby Dick, guitarist Ben Laderberg “felt inspired by the concept of a mutilated sea captain that has lost his marbles in the name of revenge.”
The album was mixed and co-produced by longtime band collaborator Scott Gordon (Ringo Starr, Alanis Morissette), and comes right after the band’s two recent singles produced with Dave Schools of Widespread Panic.
Kendall Street Company’s upcoming album, Yodeling Astroman, will be released on Vinyl & CD via Gitcha Records on October 23, 2026.

Virginia's Kendall Street Company are no strangers to having a wild time. The genre-fluid, eclectic rock ensemble has drawn varied comparisons to the dynamic jams of Umphrey's McGee and Widespread Panic, songwriting of John Prine, experimental psychedelia of Pink Floyd, progressive jazz-infused rock of Frank Zappa, and off-color humor of Ween and They Might Be Giants. Including elements of crowd participation, off-the-cuff comedic bits, haphazard choreography, musical improvisation, and surprise musical guests, each Kendall Street Company concert is an experience unlike any other. You'll laugh, you'll cry. Just remember to stay hydrated. In addition to their reputation as must-see live performers, the Company's prolific immunity to writer's block has led them to release over 100 original songs between seven studio albums, two live albums, and four EPs in a period of just six years. 2023 will see the release of (at least) an additional two studio records, a handful of singles,
