This band, formed around singer and guitarist Boris Dugi-Novacki, aka Zamba, hails from Croatia. Since its inception in 2010, Voodoo Ramble has built a considerable reputation, resulting in winning the national Blues Challenge and participating in the European Blues Challenge in Italy. Thanks to the tireless promotional work of British radio presenter Pete Feenstra, the band has also been introduced to the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe.
The band's fifth album, "Live Made In The UK," was recently released. Note: of the original Croatian members, only frontman Zamba returns. He is accompanied here by Iain Ecclestone (guitar), Ed Gerlach (bass), Josh Armittage (drums), and backing vocalists Hannah Bartlett and Felicity Dickson Boardman. At the initiative of Oz Cahill, a professor of music with a background in music management and organization, a performance was arranged in Weston-super-Mare, in western England, as a project for Cahill's students. The result has now been released under the title "Live Made In The UK." The album features eleven songs written by Zamba, four of which feature contributions from the aforementioned Pete Feenstra. Right from the very first track, Zamba and his band demonstrate their ability to play spirited, rocking blues. The opener, "Baby I've Been Lovin' You," is reminiscent of a Deep Purple blues release. From that moment on, the band leads the listener through a beautiful, mouthwatering variety of blues-rock. Songs that, in my opinion, deserve special mention are the old-school rock "Cold Hearted Woman," the slow blues "Home," and the Southern soul-infused "Little Blues Queen." Songs co-written by Feenstra, such as the Southern rock anthem "Midnight Ride" and the closing track "Too Bad For Heaven, Too Good For Hell," are also gems.
The album is a beautiful recording of an excellent concert. A fine showcase for the band. Highly recommended.
