Renowned Luthier Releases Poetic Protest of Hope, Humanity, and Endurance

A haunting folk-Americana reflection on migration, resilience, and compassion, Baldy Crawlers’ “Bring Me a Flower” fuses handcrafted artistry with a timeless protest of the human spirit.

With their haunting new single Bring Me a Flower, Baldy Crawlers deliver a protest song unlike any other—one that whispers truth instead of shouting it. Written and produced by Martin Maudal, the track intertwines folklore, empathy, and modern injustice into a cinematic tale of survival and spirit. “Bring Me a Flower” is being released on MTS Records.

Rooted in the legend of the vigilantes oscuros—the “dark watchers” said to guard the ridges of California’s Santa Lucia Mountains—the song tells the story of those who journey to the United States in search of hope, only to face the inhumanity of border persecution. Bring Me a Flower” is less about rebellion and more about resilience: the soft voice of endurance in a world that too often forgets compassion.

Maudal, a Berklee College of Music alumnus, builder of world-class instruments through his company Maudal Musical Machines, and co-curator of the acclaimed Sound Formations exhibition, continues his lifelong exploration of where art, craft, and conscience meet. “Did music teach humanity how to empathize? I think it’s very possible,” he reflects. “This song is about that—about how hope survives, even in the face of fear.”

Featuring Norrell Thompson (lead vocals), Elizabeth Hangan (harmony vocals), Ross Schodek (bass), Carl Byron (accordion), and Maudal on guitar, harmonies, and production, “Bring Me a Flower blends roots Americana with atmospheric folk, carried by Maudal’s handcrafted electric resonator guitars—each an instrument he personally designed and built.

“Artists have endorsed guitars they never touched or designed for decades,” Maudal adds. “But what if the artist built the guitar—shaped the very sound the song would live in? That’s the soul of this project.”

The single’s release follows Maudal’s co-curation of Sound Formations, a celebrated Claremont exhibition showcasing handcrafted musical instruments as both art and tools of expression. That same spirit of artistry breathes through Bring Me a Flower,” where every note feels carved by hand, every lyric steeped in empathy.

About Baldy Crawlers:
Founded by Martin Maudal, Baldy Crawlers is a California-based music project that merges songwriting, lutherie, and human storytelling. Inspired by Maudal’s roots at the foot of Mount Baldy and his years crafting instruments for Maudal Musical Machines, the project explores the intersection of art and empathy—where every song and every guitar tells its own story.
