BIO:
American Soul is a fitting brand for Mark Joseph; since his 2017 album by that name, he has charted a relentless and soulful course through America, and Americana, from blues to country to psychedelic rock and everything in between. This man is as authentically American as you would want, and as heartfelt and passionate as you can get. Joseph dings all the bells on any given night, indeed darn near every night, chalking up 200+ shows a year, crisis-crossing the heartland, from CO to MS, from NY to LA, as the hardest working family music man you will ever know. He is also piling up the albums, roughly one a year, churning out consistently high quality product. Mark Joseph has worked every gig in the business. As a promoter he has shepherded mega shows like Revival Fest booking Phil Lesh, Leftover Salmon, Jon Cleary and others; as a road manager he’s tackled logistics for Stokely Williams and Mint Condition; as a sideman he’s been the youthful guitar slinger in The Big Wu. All the while he is studying and absorbing every aspect of the music industry, meeting the people on each level, and finding his unique voice as an artist. And found it he has. Lord can this man sing. He’s got a range Gregg Allman dreamed of, with a tone and character rivaling Chris Stapleton. He digs low for the lows, and soars with the highs, all with his genuine Northfield MN gravel. It’s a voice that wraps its everlasting arms around you and won’t let go, because he is as loyal to his fans as he is to his own family. If you are in his circles, Mark Jospeh has got you. He also shreds on guitar, a la Clapton with Cream, a brilliant round tone with vibrato and touch. At times you’d swear you’re hearing Garcia, at others some ancient Delta bluesman, long forgotten, but for the DNA of the soul of America. On this, his forth full length Mark Jospeh album, “Palisade Peach,” he is again joining forces with producer and slide guitar sensei Steve McCormick, (Musician and the Muse) and cultivating synergy from LA session cats like Stanley Behrens (War, Canned Heat, Willie Dixon) , Jerry Jemmott (Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett), Tony Austin (Kamasi Washington), Michael Jerome Moore (Better Than Ezra, Blind Boys of Alabama, Richard Thompson) and Heather Donavon (Kev Mo, Melody Gardot), while also including his MN people, soul sisters Steph Devine and Jill Mikelson, and the silky vibes of Alex Steele. The material is a cross between neo-classic originals, “Palisade Peach” and “Daisy Train” (featuring legendary chicken picker Albert Lee) and public domain blues like Back-Water Blues (Bessie Smith), Come On In My Kitchen (Robert Johnson) and Deep Ellum Blues (featuring Melvin Seals from the Jerry Garcia Band), with toe tapping surprises at every turn. For a guy hitting his stride as a contender in American music, this record arrives at the perfect time.

Palisade Peach - Mark Joseph Short Song Description’s:
Back-Water Blues Back Water Blues is a vivid story about the tragic Nashville flood of 1927, written by Bessie Smith. Our version is a blues & soul experience with a small choir of backing vocalists and hard hitting grooves. The words have always resonated with me and can only imagine surviving such a situation. This track features the incomparable Stanley "The Baron" Behrens on harp.
Whole World’s Got The Blues “Whole World's Got The Blues' is a soulful self empowerment song about lifting yourself and your brother, man & sister up off the ground and taking care of each other as people. "If you be your brothers keeper, I'll help to see you through”. I try to live this truth everyday.
Come On In My Kitchen This Robert Johnson track is an old school blues staple. Definitive blues from the source and it was a great honor to record this track with the profound harmonious LA duo Love Me In The Dark (Steve McCormick & Heather Donavon) Steve is also the producer of the "Palisade Peach" album and my previous blues release "The Musician & The Muse" 2019. This song move’s me and I’m so pleased with this acoustic roots version.
I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom Another favorite Robert Johnson track, this is always a favorite to perform live. We used the rarely heard "Flat Tire" groove on this song to put a fresh take on the track. Quintessential blues all the way down the line.
Palisade Peach The album's title track "Palisade Peach" is a bouncy and fun ride with overtones of Jerry Garcia, Motown R&B feels. I wrote this tune while doing a festival in Palisade, CO. The main turn of phrase came to me in a moment of inspiration in the heavenly CO atmosphere and the rest came together in the studio! The legend Jerry Jemmott shine bright on this track.
Deep Ellum Blues This classic song has been around for well over 100 years and still resonates today. My take here is funky and danceable while heeding the warnings of the old days of Deep Ellum. Jerry Garcia's longtime organist. Melvin Seals brings the gospel and soul organ forward on this track along with Stanley "The Baron '' Behrens on harp.
Daisy Train This song was written about the fabled train bound "Festival Express" tour through Canada in 1970 with The Grateful Dead, The Band, Janis Joplin, Buddy Guy and many others. The amazing Albert Lee joined on as a very special guest on this track and brought his incredible talents and tenured licks to the party! Trading licks with Mr. Albert Lee was a real treat indeed!!
Venice Grind Throwing it back to the swing and horn eras, this danceable track was super fun to record. Lyrics are interactive and a playful take on the wild world that is Venice Beach California. This album was recorded mostly a few miles from that very beach and this is our ode to that one of a kind place. Come along with us for a stroll on the water!
Sad Mississippi Blues This is the bare bones, Chicago blues roots that flows right down the Mississippi. For me, this kind of blues connects the strongest. Slow, sad, strong, powerful and timeless.
