Thomas Charlie Pedersen – Employees Must Wash Hands Geschreven door: Eric Campfens i.s.m. BarnOwlBlues | FB Eric Campfens   In de toelichting, die bij het nieuwe album kwam, schrijft Thomas Charlie Pedersen, dat de Covid-periode voor hem een tijd was, die veel inspiratie opleverde. In 2021 nam hij twee albums op, één met zijn indierock band Vinyl Floor, die vorig jaar uitkwam, en één soloalbum, die nu is verschenen.

Na de opnamen met Vinyl Floor bleek nog zoveel materiaal over te zijn dat hij en zijn broer Daniel samen de studio zijn ingegaan om “Employees Must Wash Hands”. Thomas speelt akoestische en elektrische gitaren, piano, toetsen en is de zanger. Broer Daniel speelt gitaar, toetsen, percussie, vult de zang aan en tekent voor productie en mix.

Op het inmiddels derde soloalbum staan vijftien door Thomas zelfgeschreven nummers. Ieder verschenen van de uit Denemarken stammende singer-songwriter “Second Hand War”(2016) en “Daylight Saving Hours” (2020). Net als uit zijn vorige beide soloalbums en die van Vinyl Floor blijkt dat Thomas een meer dan uitstekende componist en tekstschrijver is, die teksten schrijft die meerdere lagen bevatten. Het album brengt vooral de bedachtzame en zelfonderzoekende kant van Pedersen. Behalve muzikaal zijn het daarom vooral de teksten, die het album zo mooi en interessant maken. Prachtige voorbeelden zijn m.i. “Fiddler & The Travesty”, “Oh, Whatever” en het geweldige “You Can’t Have It Both Ways”. Een prachtig album, topklasse.

In the notes that came with the new album, Thomas Charlie Pedersen writes that the Covid period was a time for him that gave a lot of inspiration. In 2021 he recorded two albums, one with his indie rock band Vinyl Floor, which was released last year, and one solo album, which has been released now. After the recordings with Vinyl Floor there was still so much material left that he and his brother Daniel went into the studio together to record “Employees Must Wash Hands”. Thomas plays acoustic and electric guitars, piano, keys and is the singer. Brother Daniel plays guitar, keys, percussion, completes the vocals and is responsible for production and mix.

The now third solo album contains fifteen songs written by Thomas himself. Each of the singer-songwriter from Denmark has released “Second Hand War” (2016) and “Daylight Saving Hours” (2020). Just like his previous two solo albums and that of Vinyl Floor, Thomas proves to be a more than excellent composer and lyricist, who writes lyrics that contain several layers. The album mainly brings Pedersen's thoughtful and self-exploring side. Besides musically, it is therefore mainly the lyrics that make the album so beautiful and interesting. In my opinion, wonderful examples are “Fiddler & The Travesty”, “Oh, Whatever” and the great “You Can't Have It Both Ways”. A beautiful album, great stuff
