Na het uitbrengen van de single “Get Out” vorig jaar is nu het derde album “Live & Howlin’” verschenen. Zoals de titel het al verraadt is het een livealbum met daarop veertien nummers, die al eerder zijn verschenen op de beide eerste albums plus de vorig jaar uitgebrachte single “Get Out”. Alle nummers zijn geschreven door Jonathan Earp, waarvan de genoemde single in samenwerking met Mick Jeynes. De opnamen zijn gemaakt tijdens diverse optredens door Groot-Brittannië, waaronder The Tuesday Night Music Club in Coulsdon, Surrey, als finalisten van de UK Blues Challenge in Weston-super-Mare, the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh en The Jam House, Birmingham. Dat is te horen aan het feit dat de opnamekwaliteit, hoewel goed, niet overal gelijk is. De band vormt een hechte eenheid en de nummers worden overal met duidelijk speelplezier gebracht. Naast een prima zanger en gitarist is Earp een uitstekende componist en tekstschrijver, die kleine verhaaltjes in een muzikale omlijsting weet neer te brengen. Ook muzikaal zit het wel goed. Het album geeft een variatie aan muziek, schakelt van uptempo naar ballads, van bedachtzame nummers naar stevige rockers. Een prima album, dat een fraai visitekaartje is voor deze uitstekende band.

This British blues rock formation was formed in Birmingham in 2014 by singer, guitarist Jonathan Earp and bassist Mick Jeynes. There have been some changes in the line-up over the years. The Big Wolf Band now consists of drummer Tim Jones, keyboard player Robin Fox and guitarist Justin Johnson, in addition to the aforementioned gentlemen. After a number of singles in 2015 and 2016, the debut album "A Rebel's Story" was released in 2017, which was followed two years later by "Be Free". This can be heard from the fact that the recording quality, although good, is not the same everywhere. The band forms a tight unity and the songs are played everywhere with evident pleasure. In addition to being a good singer and guitarist, Earp is an excellent composer and lyricist, who knows how to put small stories in a musical setting. It is also good musically. The album gives a variety of music, switches from uptempo to ballads, from thoughtful songs to solid rockers. A great album, which is a beautiful calling card for this excellent band.
