📃The Kendall Connection – The Kendall Connection  Geschreven door: Eric Campfens i.s.m. BarnOwlBlues | FB Eric Campfens  Het is een album, dat al een paar jaar geleden is verschenen, maar dat ik onlangs toegespeeld kreeg van een vriend uit Engeland. The Kendall Connection is een bluesrockformatie, die is gevormd rond de in Zuid-Afrika geboren zanger en gitarist Nick Kendall.

De band werd opgericht in 2016 en bestaat verder uit Steve Holness (toetsen), Greg Hagger (bas) en Tom Clare (drums). In 2017 verscheen een single van hen en in 2020 kwam hun debuutalbum op de markt met de eenvoudige titel “The Kendall Connection”.

 Muzikaal bevindt het album zich ergens tussen stuwende poprock en vlotte bluesrock, waarbij uitstapjes naar ballads en funk niet worden geschuwd. Hagger en Clare zorgen met hun bas en drums voor een stevig en ook swingend fundament, waarom Holness en Kendall hun kunsten kunnen vertonen. Op het album staan twaalf eigen nummers, die variëren van stevige rock tot gevoelige ballads. Het begin “Staring Back At Me” is een pittig rocknummer, dat de aandacht van de luisteraar opeist. Het tweede nummer “Heart Of The City”, een melodieus verteld verhaal, is meer representatief voor de rest van het album. Want Kendall blijkt een verhalenverteller van niveau te zijn. Dat is ook duidelijk in nummers als “Driving Without Headlights” en de fraaie afsluiter “Ready To Come Home”. De band laat met dit debuutalbum horen flink wat potentie te hebben. Het wachten is nu op een opvolger.

It's an album that was released a few years ago, but that I recently received from a friend from England. The Kendall Connection is a blues rock band formed around South African-born singer and guitarist Nick Kendall. The band was formed in 2016 and further consists of Steve Holness (keys), Greg Hagger (bass) and Tom Clare (drums). A single was released in 2017 and their debut album was released in 2020 with the simple title “The Kendall Connection”.

 Musically, the album is somewhere between driving pop rock and smooth blues rock, while excursions to ballads and funk are not shunned. Hagger and Clare provide a solid and swinging foundation with their bass and drums, which is where Holness and Kendall can show their skills. The album contains twelve own songs, which vary from solid rock to sensitive ballads. The beginning “Staring Back At Me” is a spicy rock song that demands the attention of the listener. The second track “Heart Of The City”, a melodically told story, is more representative of the rest of the album. Because Kendall turns out to be a level storyteller. That is also clear in songs like “Driving Without Headlights” and the beautiful closing song “Ready To Come Home”. The band shows with this debut album that they have a lot of potential. Now waiting for a successor.
