Recensie: Joe Louis Walker – Weight Of The World  Geschreven door: Eric Campfens i.s.m. BarnOwlBlues | FB Eric Campfens  Zanger, gitarist en producer Joe Louis Walker is een van de productiefste bluesartiesten te noemen. Sinds zijn debuut in de tachtiger jaren heeft hij talloze albums voor flink wat labels uitgebracht.

In de loop van de jaren heeft hij zo links en rechts wat nominaties en prijzen bijeen gesprokkeld, waaronder de Blues Music Award en een nominatie voor een Grammy. Door zijn kennis van de oude blues weet hij klassieke en moderne bluesklanken te combineren, waardoor een geheel eigen stijl ontstaat.

 Onlangs is het album “Weight Of The World” verschenen met daarop tien door Walker en Eric Corne geschreven nummers. Deze Eric Corne, die heeft gewerkt met o.m. John Mayall en Walter Trout, was mede verantwoordelijk voor de productie en is ook op een aantal nummers te horen. Verder krijgt Walker ondersteuning van on de meer Scott Milici (toetsen), John Medeiros Jr. (drums), Geoff Murfitt (bas) en een handvol anderen. Muzikaal is het een JLW zoals we hem kennen, een combinatie van ouderwets klinkende blues, soul, funk, uptempo en ballads. Behalve muzikaal zijn ook de teksten het zeker waard om beluisterd te worden. Een voorbeeld hiervan is het titelnummer, dat een beeldspraak is voor de tijd waarin wij nu leven. Fraai is ook het gospelachtige en door Gia Ciambotti gezongen “Hello, It’s The Blues” met een mooie akoestische gitaarsolo. Andere nummers die het vermelden waard zijn, zijn de soulblues à la Stax “Don’t Walk Out That Door”, en “Count Your Chickens” met een mooie slidegitaar. Wederom grote klasse van JLW.

Over the years he has racked up a few nominations and awards, including the Blues Music Award and a Grammy nomination.  Recently the album “Weight Of The World” was released with ten songs written by Walker and Eric Corne. Musically it is a JLW as we know it, a combination of old-fashioned sounding blues, soul, funk, uptempo and ballads. Besides musically, the lyrics are also worth listening to. An example of this is the title track, which is a metaphor for the times in which we now live. Also beautiful is the gospel-like "Hello, It's The Blues" sung by Gia Ciambotti with a beautiful acoustic guitar solo. Other songs worth mentioning are the soul blues à la Stax "Don't Walk Out That Door", and "Count Your Chickens" with a nice slide guitar. Once again great work from JLW.
