Pugsley Buzzard & The Swamp Orchestra - “feelin’ lucky”

Pugsley Buzzard & The Swamp Orchestra - “feelin’ lucky”

Release: 01 September 2022
Label: Music Hub | Self-distribution

Pugsley Buzzard - The Big Voice from Down Under - dances exuberantly through space and time with his Swamp Orchestra on the album "feelin lucky". Weird honky tonk meets the magic of Zappa and invites the beat poets Kerouac and Ginsberg for a drink. Pugsley Buzzard's compositions tell of vagabonds scarred by life and they sing the songs of uprooted troubadours. Pugsley's raspy baritone gets under the skin and lets anyone with a heart in their chest experience the love of life and the blazing flame of passion. With him, the first-class band celebrates a big-easy party under the motto "Get the Buzz".

Band
Pugsley Buzzard - voc, piano
Bernhard Ullrich - sax
Rob Gutowski - trombone
Tobi Fleischer - bass
Micha Maass - drums

The story behind the album:

During a four-month engagement in the summer of 2021 in the Baltic Sea resort of Binz, there was enough time to try out and arrange new songs. A rehearsal room with a sea view and a plan for the recordings were also available, only an urgently needed grand piano was missing to record the songs. The band found what they were looking for in the Kurhaus-Saal Binz and convinced the Kurhaus director Oliver Gut with an overwhelming concert, directly in front of his door on the Kurplatz.

He let the Swamp Orchestra have the grand piano and hall for a week. Producer Jan Rubach moved his studio from Hamburg to Binz without further ado. In Berlin, he was later joined by a few interesting guest musicians, including Ingrid Arthur from the Weather Girls in the back-ground and Greg Bowen, who recorded the James Bond Goldfinger melodies, in the horn section on the trumpet.

"And what music it is. Steaming and bubbling, like the streets of New Orleans."

The band:
Pugsley Buzzard, Australian, musician, actor and former TV cook, followed his intuition and came
to Germany in 2018, where he had already made friends with drummer Micha Maass. Since then, the two have been working on a joint band project that allows them to realise their love for ob- scure sounds and lyrics.

Micha Maass is an authority on the European blues scene. He tours extensively with various pro-
jects and bands and is also highly regarded as an organiser and curator of festivals, series and more. He has been named best drummer at the German Blues Awards three times, most recently in 2019.
