Ze komt oorspronkelijk uit Redondo Beach in Californië en kwam in de negentiger jaren met een klap in de muziekscene terecht. Kris Wiley werd ooit de meest veelbelovende vrouwelijke gitarist na Bonnie Raitt genoemd. Ze toerde door de VS en Europa, bracht twee albums uit, “Old, New, Borrowed And Blue” en “Breaking The Rules” en verdween net zo snel als ze gekomen was. En nu, 25 jaar nadat zij verdween is zij terug met haar derde album, gewoon “Kris Wiley” getiteld.

Op het album staan tien nummers variërend van stevige bluesrock tot gevoelige ballads. De productie was in handen van Carla Olson, bekend van haar werk met Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Mick Taylor, Kim Wilson en Percy Sledge, om er maar een paar te noemen. Met de opener “Inside Outside”, een stevige bluesrocker, geeft Kris meteen haar visitekaartje af. Tijdens de komende kleine 50 minuten wisselen stevige rockers en fraaie ballads elkaar af. Nummers die wat mij betreft een bijzondere vermelding verdienen zijn het pittige “Paying The Price”, het stevige “I Can’t Love Without You” met fel gitaarwerk, en de boogie “Hard Lovin’ Man”. Een zeer fraaie comeback van Kris Wiley. Het is niet te hopen dat ze weer voor een aantal jaar verdwijnt. Ik wil graag meer van haar horen en zien.

Originally from Redondo Beach, California, she jumped into the music scene in the 1990s. Kris Wiley was once named the most promising female guitarist after Bonnie Raitt. She toured the US and Europe, released two albums, “Old, New, Borrowed And Blue” and “Breaking The Rules” and disappeared as quickly as she came. And now, 25 years after she disappeared, she's back with her third album, simply titled "Kris Wiley."

The album contains ten songs ranging from sturdy blues rock to sensitive ballads. Production was by Carla Olson, known for her work with Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Mick Taylor, Kim Wilson and Percy Sledge, to name a few. With the opener “Inside Outside”, a solid blues rocker, Kris immediately gives out her business card. During the next 50 minutes, heavy rockers and beautiful ballads alternate. Songs that deserve a special mention in my opinion are the spicy "Paying The Price", the sturdy "I Can't Love Without You" with fierce guitar work, and the boogie "Hard Lovin' Man". A very nice comeback from Kris Wiley. It is not to be hoped that she will disappear again for a number of years. I would like to hear and see more of her.
