Grote klasse.

Both are expats, both moved elsewhere because of the love for a woman and both share a love for the blues. The Dutchman Hans Theessink ended up in Austria because of love and the American Big Daddy Wilson stayed in Germany for the same reason. In the past, the guys have worked together and shared the stage before. Now it has been decided to record an album together, which was recently released under the title “Pay Day”.

And the result of this collaboration is outstanding. On the album we hear only both men. On just one song Wilson's wife Helga provides the background vocals. It has turned out to become a very relaxed album with beautiful accompaniment on guitar, banjo, mandolin and percussion. Both have very beautiful dark voices, of which Theessink's is a bit rawer and Wilson's is a bit more soulful. They complement each other nicely. “Pay Day” features sixteen songs, six wre written by each of them. This twelve songs have been supplemented with four covers. They are by Blind Willie Johnson, Skip James, Washington Philips and Mississippi John Hurt. The latter's is the title track “Pay Day”. Other songs I think are worth mentioning are “Vintage Red Wine” and “Train”, both by Theessink, and “I Got Plenty” and “Ballerina” by Wilson. In short, a wonderful collaboration and a beautiful blues album. Great stuff.
