Chris Gantry (born December 29, 1942) is an American country musician and songwriter known for his involvement in the outlaw country genre (early "outlaws" include Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark and many others). Gantry is known for writing songs such as "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife".
Back in '73: invited by ol' JC (that's Mister Cash to you and me) to chill out and cut some tracks at his country manor, our hero (Chris Gantry, to you and me) let loose with a surge of revelations of love and haight; minimalist acid-country/folk, as if the genre ever existed! This is the first sign of it since then, made all the sweeter by the years — and the weirder!
50 years since he wrote his first country hit, Chris Gantry is still living and singing like the outlaw he was then, along with Kris Kristofferson, while many others are now lost to the years. Lucky for us, Chris is still writing, and his song-stories are a country-folk séance of the human spirit. "Nashlantis" is out on the 26th of July.
