ERIC SCHENKMAN will be releasing his self-produced third solo album, WHO SHOT JOHN?, January 11, 2019 through Vizztone Records.
WHO SHOT JOHN? ranges from rockin’ blues to funk/soul/pop, all based around Schenkman’s killer guitar, expressive vocals, and raw, emotional lyrics. Teaming up with longtime pals Cody Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars) on drums on washboard, Van Romaine (Enrique Iglesias, Steve Morse Band) on drums, and co-prducer/bassist Shawn Kellerman (Lucky Peterson), Schenkman used a power-trio lineup to bring his original songs to life.
Eric is a founding member of the famed NYC band The Spin Doctors, — a vital songwriter and virtuoso guitarist who crafted the ‘90s band and co-wrote all five of their Top 100 hits. He will be performing in their upcoming 30th anniversary show at the Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, NY on November 8. He has also worked with Chico Hamilton, Carly Simon, Natalie Merchant, Noel Redding, Phoebe Snow and Corky Laing. Schenkman is also currently holding down a weekly blues-flavored residency in his adopted hometown of Toronto.
“I’ve been playing the Ontario blues circuit for about a dec
ade,” he explains. “I have this long history as a guitarist in relationship to the blues up here in Canada. And I’ve been writing songs in a couple of different idioms. So WHO SHOT JOHN? comes from a convergence of my three worlds — vocals, guitar and songwriting. It’s about my life. Where I’m at now.”
