Roosevelt Sykes and more. Paul Lenart had already toured Europe as a member of T Bone Walker's band in the American Folk Blues tour, featuring Big Mama Thornton, Memphis Slim, Big Joe Williams, and Robert Pete Williams; Chuck was a member of Van Morrison's early band before joining and recording with the Colwell-Winfield Blues Band; and Chuck, Paul and Billy Mather were all members of the early James Montgomery Band. Richard "Rosy" Rosenblatt played with the likes of Billy Colwell, John Lee Hooker, Sunnyland Slim, Hubert Sumlin and others while he was starting to tinker with tape recorders in his basement and getting ready to launch Tone-Cool Records. in 1985 the 11th Hour Band's "Hot Time in The City Tonight" became the label's flagship release, soon to be followed by another 50 or so releases by artists like Monster Mike Welch, Toni Lynn Washington, Susan Tedeschi, the North Mississippi Allstars and more.
Paul, Chuck, Bill and Rosy continued to play together off and on for the next few decades. They all stayed busy with other pursuits, musical and otherwise, but their unique musical chemistry and friendship kept bringing the “11 Guys” back to their original quartet.
Around 2008 they decided to go into the studio to record some original instrumentals — straight-ahead, unadorned live takes, mood pieces and variations — no screaming solos, all self-contained and, well… small. After considering the possibilities for another decade or so, they decided it was time to rename the band and release this music to the world in January, 2020 as “11 GUYS QUARTET - SMALL BLUES AND GROOVES.” No one was more surprised than they were to see the album climb the blues radio charts and be showered internationally with 4-star reviews that hailed them as “masterful, understated and just plain cool.”
When the pandemic hit, they began recording remotely, starting with “The Rona Stomp” and “Lightning Road,” then following up with “Possum Blues,” “Driving a Fast Car,” “Black Cat Bone,” “Jokers Blues,” and “Blues Beyond Midnight” – each single accompanied by a wildly creative video constructed by evil mastermind Bill "the Coach" Mather.
In between singles, the guys have been keeping extremely busy.

Chuck has been living the life in Florida, playing music and lots of tennis, and following his artistic muse as an award-winning photographer; Paul continues to write and produce for the Sonoton Music Library for TV and film, and took a recent trip to Italy; Rosy has been busy wearing many hats with the VizzTone Label Group, playing in Danny Klein’s Full House, and enjoying being a new grandfather; Bill “the Coach” has been busy playing bass and being the evil mastermind of video production.
Fast forward to November 2023 – the 11 Guys have decided that it’s time to present their latest body of work to the world as an album– the eight songs they have released as singles and videos, plus three more tracks to make a perfect eleven. 11 x 11 is the full complement to their insanely creative YouTube videos and more.
