Steve Hill, the acclaimed guitarist-singer-songwriter recently celebrated his 25th year as a recording artist with his 12th album Dear Illusion, released by No Label Records on November 11. Three years in the making, the new album is available from https://ffm.to/dearillusion.
“It took me a long time to finish ‘Don’t Let The Truth Get In The Way (Of A Good Story),’ recollects Steve. “I started working on it six years ago after the Trump election. It’s about alternate truth, but it’s also about social media and our addiction to it. It’s also about pretending that everything is alright when it’s not. It’s about choosing to pretend because it’s easier than facing the truth when the truth doesn’t matter anymore.”
But that’s not all. To make the new album an even bigger means for celebration, Steve is releasing the limited edition Dear Illusion comic book.

Gulf Coast Records announces the signing of acclaimed Chicago blues guitar great Joanna Connor, and will release her label debut CD in the Spring of 2023. Connor will be going into the studio in December to record the new album. She’ll be recording with her “Wrecking Crew 22” band that includes: Joanna Connor - guitar and vocals; Shaun Gotti Calloway – bass; Dan Souvigny – guitar and keys; Curtis Moore Jr. – keys; and Jason J Roc Edwards - drums and vocals. Several special guests on the sessions will be announced at a later date.

Het was een fraaie kerstsingle van The Lasses en Janos Koolen.Het is december, perfecte timing voor een nieuwe kerstsingle toch?
We waren een paar weken geleden bij Janos Koolen in de studio om te werken aan ons nieuwe album met Schotse traditionals. Ondertussen waren we ook onze wintertour aan het plannen (met concerten in Nijmegen, Oostzaan, Doetinchem, Borgercompagnie, Amsterdam en Achterveld) en zodoende kwamen we ineens op het plan om even pauze te nemen van ons album om iets van ons kerstrepertoire op te nemen.

“Hold on to your dreams, one day, it will come true.” is a quote from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and a notion that has come to fruition for vocalist and harmonica man Douglas Avery with the release of his debut album, Take My Rider. Avery is well known for his work behind the camera as a photojournalist covering the West Coast blues scene, so it was fairly simple to recruit some of Southern California’s best players to join him and producer Ralph Carter in Ventura to record at Ralph’s Garage.

Produced by Grammy-winner Nick Rowe (Bloodsimple, Vampire Weekend), the track digs deeper into the theme of the album. In addition to the vocal prowess of vocalist Elana Justin, the album features Nick Rowe on guitar, bass and co-songwriting credits; drummer Ray Luzier (Korn) on six tracks; guitarist Marcos Curiel (P.O.D.) on the first single "Broken"; and "special guest" Carla Harvey of Butcher Babies on the song "Lift Me Up". Harvey also co-starred in the video for that track and says:

When Rivers Meet will tour the UK in April and May 2023. Today, they have released their double A-side Christmas single - “Christmas Is Here” b/w “It’s The Time of the Year,” two original songs they have written to celebrate Christmas.
In 2021, When Rivers Meet were the first band to win four UK Blues Awards including Blues Band of the Year, Blues Album of the Year (We Fly Free), Emerging Blues Artist of the Year, and Most Inspirational Online Performance of the Year. WRM also won Best New Band at Planet Rock’s awards The Rocks.

De Utrechtse band Five Dollar Shake heeft haar debuut-EP ‘1, 2, 3, 4…’ uit. Met pakkende hooks, een ronkende Hammond en een krachtige leadzangeres laat de band je voelen wat hedendaagse bluesrock is.
Als start van de plaat telt zangeres Lucinda Legaspi keurig af zodat je je schrap kunt zetten voor impact: “1, 2, 3, 4!”. De energieke opener en eerste single ‘I Am Not Your Mother’ wordt op de EP gevolgd door het soulvolle, riff-gebaseerde ‘Never Leaving You’. Dat ware liefde ook rauw kan zijn benadrukt de band in de brug van deze track: het schuurt erg lekker tussen de zoete Rhodes-klanken van toetsenist Bas van der Starre en het gitaargeluid van Anne Kruiter.

“ATL” is primal, hypnotic blues rammed headlong into a psychedelic mind-grinder. GA-20 uses their absolute mastery of musical intangibles like mood and groove to take listeners on an excursion into and through undulating waves of sonic inspiration. Hank B. Marvin (Newcastle, Groot-Brittannië, 1941) is de lead-gitarist van The Shadows. Als hij in 1959 met Bruce Welch, vriend en slaggitarist van The Shadows, in Londen is, ontmoeten zij de manager van Cliff Richard. Hij stelt voor Cliff te begeleiden. Talloze hits en films zijn het gevolg. Ook solo scoren The Shadows vele hits, waaronder het wereldberoemde Apache.
