Bio: British blues guitarist Mick Clarke began his career with KILLING FLOOR, part of the British blues boom of the late 1960s and contemporaries of Free, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. The band backed Texas blues guitar star Freddie King and toured with legends Howlin’ Wolf and Otis Spann. The album “Killing Floor” was later listed as one of Classic Rock Magazine’s twenty top British blues albums of the time. In the 70s Mick’s band SALT built a strong following in the UK, playing at the Reading Festival 1977 and opening for Muddy Waters in London.

 Hij heeft de smaak te pakken, deze Mick Kolassa. Na ruim vijftig jaar lang de blues te hebben gespeeld bracht hij in 2014 pas zijn eerste album uit. Inmiddels is zijn elfde cd verschenen en aan de titel te zien is hij er voorlopig nog niet klaar mee. Oorspronkelijk komt hij uit Michigan, heeft zo’n jaar of dertig in Mississippi gewoond en woont nu alweer geruime tijd in de buurt van Memphis, Tennessee. Hij is vaak te vinden op de podia in en rond Beale Street, soms met eigen band en ook regelmatig met anderen meespelend.

Het verschijnen van “Colder Streams”, het elfde album van The Sadies, heeft een nare bijsmaak gekregen. Gitarist en medeoprichter Dallas Good is namelijk in februari onverwachts overleden en heeft deze release niet meer mogen meemaken. De band, die naast Dallas Good bestaat uit diens broer Travis Good, Sean Dean en Mike Belitsky, komt uit Toronto, Canada bestaat al zo’n kleine dertig jaar en bracht in 1998 hun eerste album uit.

In Patty Tuite komt het mooiste van diverse genres bijeen: blues, rock, jazz en soul. Het zit er allemaal in. Deze Canadese zangeres en gitariste schrijft al haar materiaal bovendien zelf. Vanaf 1999 leidt zij al diverse bands, waarmee zij drie albums heeft uitgebracht. Het is alweer twee jaar geleden dat het Leids/Haagse blues-roots trio Katvanger hun debuutalbum uitbrachten en hoewel het album goed werd ontvangen stak Corona een stokje voor de geplande bijbehorende feestelijke presentatie. Zoals vele anderen heeft de band 20 maanden lang geen enkele keer opgetreden, en is pas recent weer voorzichtig begonnen met kleine optredens in select gezelschap. Maar nu: opgelucht om eindelijk bevrijd te zijn van alle coronagerelateerde beperkingen van de afgelopen 2 ½ jaar nodigt Katvanger vrienden, fans en nieuwsgierige willekeurige voorbijgangers uit om met hen op 9 september in Galerie Café Leidse Lente de langverwachte presentatie bij te wonen van hun album So Late So Soon.
