In Memoriam: Betty Davis

De Amerikaanse zangeres Betty Davis is woensdag overleden, meldt muziekblad Rolling Stone. De zangeres, die gold als een icoon binnen het funkgenre, stierf een natuurlijke dood. Davis werd 77 jaar.

Davis, die van 1968 tot 1969 één jaar getrouwd was met de befaamde jazztrompettist Miles Davis, was vooral in de jaren 60 en 70 actief als zangeres. Het grootste deel van haar muziek maakte zij tussen 1964 en 1975. In 1973 bracht ze het album Betty Davis uit. In de twee jaar daarna volgden respectievelijk They Say I’m Different en Nasty Gal.

VOLBEAT VERVANGT QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE OP ZONDAG

Met de bevestiging van Chef’Special en Selah Sue is het Pinkpop zaterdagprogramma compleet. Op zondag reist de Deense rockmachine Volbeat naar Landgraaf. Zij waren eerder bevestigd voor de 2020 editie maar staan nu na 11 jaar dan toch eindelijk weer op het Pinkpop podium! Ze spelen ter vervanging van Queens of the Stone Age die vanwege gewijzigde tourplannen helaas niet naar de 51e editie kunnen komen.

Met deze nieuwe namen zijn er 54 van de 62 acts bekendgemaakt. We zijn lekker op weg naar een vol affiche!

Shakey Trill is an original, gutsy and raw blues/folk duo from Saugeen Shores, Ontario, Canada.  Shakey was a nickname given to guitarist/vocalist Mike MacDonald because of his jittery hands. Trill, by definition is the sound of two notes being played rapidly back and forth. Tyler Pantlin fittingly exemplifies this with his harmonica technique.

In January 2019 the duo participated at the 35th International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee representing the Bruce County Blues Society.  The challenge was a week long event with performances up and down the famous Beale Street.  They were part of the solo/duo category which included over 80 different acts from around the globe.  Shakey Trill made it into the final round, top 8 spots which earned them the privilege to play at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Memphis.
