Chariots of Fire- en Blade Runner-componist Vangelis (79) overleden

 De Griekse componist Vangelis is op 79-jarige leeftijd overleden. Dat meldt de Athens News Agency donderdag op basis van zijn advocaat. De Griek was vooral bekend als componist van de muziek voor de films Chariots of Fire en Blade Runner.

Voor zijn werk in Chariots of Fire won Vangelis in 1981 de Academy Award voor beste originele muziek. De titelsong van de film, die hoort bij de scène waarin Britse atleten ter voorbereiding op de Olympische Spelen van 1924 over het strand rennen, is een van de meest iconische en herkenbare stukken filmmuziek ooit.
