Nog maar een maand tot Moulin Blues 2023 en zowaar breekt de zon door! Wij zijn momenteel druk bezig met de voorbereidingen, maar kunnen niet wachten tot het bluesfeest in Ospel los gaat barsten. We tellen voorzichtig al af... Wijziging in bezetting Sugar Ray & the Bluetones Helaas kregen we bericht uit de Verenigde Staten dat Sugar Ray and the Bluetones zonder Duke Robillard afreizen naar Ospel. Gelukkig hebben ze waardige vervangers gevonden, want niemand minder dan Rusty Zinn en Alex Schultz zullen de gitarensectie van the Bluetones voor hun rekening gaan nemen!

Bluesmagazine’s weekly playlist is een gevarieerde lijst met onder andere tips van de luisteraars. Er is verder muziek met een link naar Bluesmagazine (releases, recensies, concert reviews) en daarna is de keuze gigantisch. De playlist is voor de luisteraar, naast het lezen van Bluesmagazine en andere Blues websites, een manier om nieuwe artiesten en hun muziek te leren kennen.Samenstelling: Jos Verhagen.

De tips worden iedere week beter. Vorige week al aandacht voor de Zuid Afrikaan Basson Laubscher & The Violent Free Peace, deze week kreeg Bluesmagazine de tip van, Steve Louw. Het lijkt erop dat de Zuid-Afrikaanse blues scene booming is. Tip van Bluesmagazine luister ook eens naar The Back Cat bones hun nieuwe album Book of Miriam. Een mooie toevoeging aan deze act is Duke Robillard, een geweldenaar en een speciale artiest voor ons… hij stond namelijk met zijn Pleasure Kings, op het affiche van de allereerste editie van Moulin Blues in 1986!

 Canadian Roots Blues duo Blue Moon Marquee announce a September 9th release date for  their latest CD, Scream, Holler & Howl, on their own Blue Moon Marquee Music label.  The new CD was recorded at Afterlife Studios.in Vancouver, British Columbia, and produced by the band, along with multi Blues Music Award-winner Duke Robillard and Erik Nielsen. Scream, Holler & Howl shines a bright spotlight on the prodigious talents of A.W. Cardinal (vocals and guitar) and Jasmine Colette (upright bass/vocals), along with guests Darcy Phillips - piano, Hammond organ; Jerry Cook - tenor and baritone sax; Matt Pease – drums; Paul Pigat – guitar; Bonnie Northgraves –trumpet; and Señor Erik –tambourine. Duke Robillard adds his stellar guitar work on several tracks, too. The album’s “Baker’s Dozen” 13 tracks include 11 original songs, plus two distinctive takes on songs written by the legendary Lonnie Johnson: “Another Night to Cry” and “Long Black Train.”

The Duke Robillard Band Set to Release New CD, "They Called It Rhythm & Blues," 

on March 18 via Stony Plain Records.

Stony Plain Records announces a March 18 release date for They Called It Rhythm & Blues, the exciting new CD from two-time Grammy nominee and multiple Blues Music Award-winning guitarist Duke Robillard. The new album will also be released as a vinyl LP on August 5^th. Joining the guitar maestro (who also produced) on They Called It Rhythm & Blues is an all-star cast of special guests, including John Hammond, Kim Wilson, Sue Foley, Sugar Ray Norcia, Michelle Willson, Chris Cote, Bruce Bears, Marty Ballou, Mark Teixeira, Doug James, Mike Flanigin, Mark Earley, Doug Woolverton and Matt McCabe.

Hash Brown (Brian Calway) begon met het spelen van blues in 1973. Hij werd sterk beïnvloed door Duke Robillard en Roomful of Blues, Ronnie Earl met Sugar Ray and the Bluetones. Hij speelde blues in het noordoosten voordat hij in 1983 naar Dallas, Texas verhuisde. Sindsdien speelt Hash Brown al meer dan 23 jaar blues in Dallas. Nadat hij naar Texas was verhuisd, stortte hij zich in een levendige muziekscene en werd hij een integraal onderdeel van de bands ZuZu Bollin, UP Wilson, Robert Ealey, Willie Willis, Big Al Dupree, Henry Qualls. Hash Brown toerde vele malen door de VS en Europa. Hij is op maar liefst 30 verschillende opnames verschenen
