The first single, “IF”, which is available now, is a minor blues ballad, sung by Marcel Anton in the classic bayou soul tradition. His powerful baritone delivers the heart-wrenching tale of lost love and reaches a natural falsetto that recalls some of the region’s masters. Intensity builds after a bridge and a stop as the band modulates into the final chorus, “If you’re gonna let me down, don’t make it easy.” Big Al shares, “IF is a heart-rending song of troubled romance and betrayal that happens when one lover is hurting the other playing games. Big Al and the Heavyweights - Love One Another
New Orleans based drummer Al Lauro joined the touring band of Southern Rock star David Allan Coe in the late 70s. During his six years with Coe he acquired the nickname Big Al, and became good friends with the band’s guitarist, Warren Haynes. He and Warren started a side project called the Unknown Blues Band, which played off and on for a few years, after which Big Al decided to form his own band, Big Al and the Heavyweights.
