Dutch guitarist Jan De Hont died yesterday (March 12, 2026). De Hont is considered to be a pioneer of popular Dutch guitar music. In the sixties he was leadguitarist in ZZ en de Maskers. In 1963 De Hont recorded a guitar version of La Comparsa (written by Cuban musician Ernesto Lecuano. It became one of the most popular guitar instrumentals in Dutch pop history.
In the seventies De Hont played with Neerlands Hoop in Bange Dagen van Freek de Jonge en Bram Vermeulen. Later on he became a much asked session musician for a.o. The Cats, Fay Lovsky, Frank Boeijen en Boudewijn de Groot.
May 2022 De Hont played his last gig with his old band ZZ en de Maskers.
