âNew Low" is the latest single by Ben Levin and features the raw west-side Chicago blues of Lil' Ed. Ben and his band provide a strong musical backdrop for Ed, as we hang onto every word and note he delivers in this haunting slow blues.
"I am proud to release this single I recorded with Lil' Ed in late 2023. I first saw Ed live as a young teen, and his show left a lasting impression on me. It is an honor to now work with Ed in the studio and on stage. I wrote this song during a difficult period in my life, and was dealing with the grief of a lossed friend and family member. When I pitched the song to Ed he truly connected to the lyrics, and we soon recorded this song in one take." â Ben Levin
Written by Ben Levin, this track features Ben on Piano, Lil' Ed on lead guitar and vocals, Aron Levin on rhythm guitar, Walter Cash, Jr. on bass, and Cole Baker on drums.
Ben first saw Lil' Ed in his early teens, and he was moved by the power of his raw blues, which carried the heavy influence of his uncle J.B. Hutto. Years later in 2021, Ed invited him to sit in at a show at Rosa's Lounge in Chicago. (see photo below.) The two stayed in touch and wound up getting together for a couple shows and a recording session in 2022, which yielded three songs for Ben's TAKE YOUR TIME album. A 2023 recording session produced a song for Ben's 2023 HOLIDAY album, as well as the new single, NEW LOW. Ben and Lil' Ed are a great combination, and they will surely get together again before long for more performances and recording sessions.
