Het langverwachte derde studioalbum Starcatcher van de Grammy-winnende rockband Greta Van Fleet staat gepland voor release op 21 juli op Lava/Republic Records. Het album is geschreven en opgenomen door de band – leadzanger Josh Kizka , gitarist Jake Kizka , bassist/toetsenist Sam Kizska en drummer Danny Wagner – samen met Grammy-winnende producer Dave Cobb .

Door de tien nummers tellende collectie onderzoekt de band de dualiteit van fantasie versus realiteit en het contrast tussen licht en duisternis. " We hadden het idee dat we deze verhalen wilden vertellen om een universum op te bouwen", zegt Wagner. "We wilden karakters en motieven introduceren en deze ideeën die hier en daar tijdens onze carrières door deze wereld zouden ontstaan."
De band nam meerdere concepten van het veelgeprezen tweede album The Battle at Garden's Gate en bracht ze naar Starcatcher, hoewel Sam's kijk op de grote ideeën van de nieuwe plaat in plaats daarvan duidt op een nieuw begin. "Als ik me de wereld van Starcatcher voorstel, denk ik aan de kosmos", zegt hij. "Het zorgt ervoor dat ik veel vragen stel, zoals 'Waar komen we vandaan?' of 'Wat doen we hier?' Maar het zijn ook vragen als: 'Wat is dit bewustzijn dat we hebben, en waar komt het vandaan?'”
De band is vooral bekend om hun befaamde live-optredens, waarbij wereldwijd meer dan een miljoen tickets zijn verkocht. Ze hebben hun hele arenatour van 2022 uitverkocht, waardoor er een speciale energie tussen hen en hun toegewijde fans heerste. Met Starcatcher wil de band die energie vastleggen in de opnamestudio.
Greta Van Fleet werd in 2012 opgericht in Frankenmuth, Michigan en bestaat uit drie broers: zanger Josh Kiszka, gitarist Jake Kiszka en bassist/toetsenist Sam Kiszka, evenals drummer Danny Wagner. Samen hebben ze op meerdere continenten opgetreden en wereldwijd meer dan 3,5 miljoen platen verkocht.

Grammy-winning rock band Greta Van Fleet’s much anticipated third studio album Starcatcher is set for release July 21 on Lava/Republic Records.
The album is written and recorded by the band—lead singer Josh Kizka, guitarist Jake Kizka, bassist/keyboardist Sam Kizska and drummer Danny Wagner—alongside Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile). Recorded at the legendary RCA Studios in Nashville, the band utilized the large recording room to capture the pure energy of their world-renowned live performances.
“We didn’t really have to force or be intense about writing, because everything that happened was very instinctual,” Jake says. “If anything, the record is our perspective, and sums up where we are as a group and individually as musicians.”
Throughout the ten-song collection the band explores the duality of fantasy versus reality and the contrast between light and darkness. “We had this idea that we wanted to tell these stories to build a universe,” says Wagner. “We wanted to introduce characters and motifs and these ideas that would come about here and there throughout our careers through this world.”
The band took multiple concepts from critically acclaimed second album The Battle at Garden’s Gate and brought them into Starcatcher, although Sam’s take on the new record’s big ideas hint instead at new beginnings. “When I imagine the world of Starcatcher, I think of the cosmos,” he says. “It makes me ask a lot of questions, like ‘Where did we come from?’ or ‘What are we doing here?’ But it’s also questions like, ‘What is this consciousness that we have, and where did it come from?’”
The band are best known for their renowned live performances, selling over one million tickets worldwide. They sold out their entire 2022 arena tour, holding a special energy between them and their devoted fans. With Starcatcher the band aims to capture that energy in the recording studio.
