 V2 Records

Release date: Friday, February 10th 2023

In 2003, tucked away in her garden shed, 28-year-old Polly Paulusma recorded her debut album ‘Scissors In My Pocket’. Record label One Little Indian signed her up and ‘Scissors…’ received immediate and widespread critical acclaim upon its international release in 2004.Uncut **** “the finest young British female singer-songwriter to emerge over the last 12 months”MOJO ****

“complete, pure and personal”Paulusma was catapulted round the world, supporting Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, The Divine Comedy, Marianne Faithfull, and played Glastonbury, T in the Park and Cambridge Folk Festival.Since then she has released seven albums and this year’s ‘Invisible Music: folk songs that influenced Angela Carter’ is her eighth. It presents in musical terms the PhD she’s recently completed, examining the importance of Carter’s folk singing activities on her literary output, and how ‘songful’ figures from her experiences of performance emerge in her writing style.

She founded indie-folk label Wild Sound in 2012, which is now a folk imprint at the newly-named One Little Independent. A ninth album of Paulusma’s own songs, ‘The Pivot on the Which The World Turns’ (‘Pivot’), is slated for release in 2022, and its sister album ‘When Violent Hot Pitch Words Hurt’ (‘Pitch’) in 2023.‘When Violent Hot Pitch Words Hurt’ is Polly Paulusma’s latest sister-album, the title an anagram of ‘The Pivot On Which The World Turns’, which was released in September via One Little Independent folk subsidiary Wild Sound.

Possibly her most vulnerable accompanying piece yet, it reveals early demos, lyric changes, musical alterations, draftings, and even spoken-word origin poems that proceeded the final recordings.
