KIKO & THE BLUES REFUGEES: READY FOR FESTIVALS OF SUMMER 2023

Kiko & the Blues Refugees have done in 2 years what many bands can’t achieve in many and that is creating a distinctive sound based in the blues and soul heritage of American music but with focus on current events. The band is sensational live with energy, creativity and understanding of the music they love and respect. Is it blues? Is it soul? Is it Funk or Rock’n’roll? Who knows? who cares, It’s good music, great music, honest music.
 
After the debut album “Threadbare” was enthusiastically received by critics and audience alike, the Oporto band is back in studio recording their new album with the new single scheduled to be released in November.

WHO ARE KIKO & THE BLUES REFUGEES

 The lineup is made of experienced and talented musicians the likes of António Mão de Ferro (guitars), Jorge Filipe Santos (keyboards), Carl Minnemann (bass), João Cunha (drums) and Kiko Pereira the Newark born Portuguese singer composer and producer who music critic José Duarte called the best male voice in jazz and blues in Portugal.

In 2022 the band released the video of the song “Fake News” directed by Alberto Almeida and have been busy with concerts all over the country culminating with a tour with legendary Steel Pedal musician BJ Cole. Cole, interviewed for TSF radio in Portugal refers that he was thrilled to play with a band that he considers to be one of the most fascinating bands he has ever played with.

Recently Kiko Pereira was in Turin to see the Eurofestival and had an opportunity to meet with Italian author Edoardo Fassio for some wine, grappa and conversation about the blues, music and life. Kiko had sang in the 2018 Eurovision in Lisbon with team Austria coming in 3^rd place. “It was a marvelous experience to be in Turin, meet fantastic people and check out Maro at the Eurovision. I hope next time I’m back I can bring my band for a great celebration of our music with the Italian public that is so warm and enthusiastic.” said Kiko Pereira.
 
Kiko Pereira is also head of the Jazz Department of the Music Conservatory in Porto and is a well-known and respected vocal coach that has worked on several seasons of The Voice Portugal and other talent shows and is in high demand for masterclasses and workshops.
