De zoon van een Italiaanse vader en Cubaanse moeder wordt op 12 augustus 1969 in New York geboren en groeit op in Miami. Vanaf zijn twaalfde leert hij gitaar spelen en op zijn eenentwintigste wordt hij professioneel muzikant. Zijn grote kans kwam toen Junior Wells hem in zijn band opnam. Inmiddels vele jaren en een flink aantal soloalbums later is deze Albert Castiglia een graag geziene gast op de podia over de hele wereld.
Voor zijn recentste cd “I Got Love” heeft hij hetzelfde plan van aanpak gebruikt als voor zijn vorige albums. Dezelfde producer, namelijk Mike Zito, in diens studio met wie hij ook een aantal nummers samen heeft geschreven. Begeleid wordt Castiglio door Justine Tompkins (bas, zang); Ephraim Lowell (drums, zang) en Lewis Stephens (Hammond B3, piano). Op het album staan elf nummers, waarvan er tien door Castiglia zijn geschreven of meegeschreven, en een cover, t.w. “Depression Blues” van Melvin Taylor. Muzikaal is het wat we van Castiglia gewend zijn, namelijk stevige en melodieuze bluesrock. Wat teksten betreft heeft hij de gebeurtenissen, die hem de afgelopen twee jaar zijn overkomen, van zich afgeschreven. Ook hij is geraakt door Covid-19 en er flink ziek van geworden, het heeft hem tevens zijn inkomsten gekost, en uiteindelijk is hij er weer goed en sterker uitgekomen. Hoogtepunten zij wat mij betreft “Burning Bridges”, Melvin Taylors “Depression Blues” en het samen Zito geschreven “You Don’t Know Hell”. Prima album.

For his recent CD “I Got Love” he has used the same plan of approach as for his previous albums. The same producer, Mike Zito, in his studio with whom he also co-wrote a number of songs. Castiglio is accompanied by Justine Tompkins (bass, vocals); Ephraim Lowell (drums, vocals) and Lewis Stephens (Hammond B3, piano). The album contains eleven songs, ten of which are written or co-written by Castiglia, and a cover, viz. Melvin Taylor's Depression Blues. Musically it is what we are used to from Castiglia, namely solid and melodic blues rock. As far as lyrics are concerned, he has written off the events that have happened to him over the past two years. He was also hit by Covid-19 and became quite ill from it, it also cost him his income, and in the end he came out well and stronger. As far as I'm concerned, highlights are "Burning Bridges", Melvin Taylor's "Depression Blues" and the Zito co-written "You Don't Know Hell". Good album.
