De Starlite Campbell Band is een uit Groot-Brittannië afkomstige bluesband, die begin 2016 het licht zag. Zangeres, bassiste en songwriter Suzy Starlite begon in 2012 de band Starlite, waar Simon Campbell de gitarist was. Beide muzikanten hebben ruime ervaring in diverse bands en als soloartiest. Simon won in 2011 een British Blues Award als beste zanger. Ergens sloeg bij beiden de vonk over en in 2014 trouwden zij. In januari 2016 begonnen zijn met de Starlite Campbell Band en verscheen hun eerste album “Blueberry Pie”, dat internationaal goed ontvangen werd.
Het heeft vijf jaar geduurd en nu is de opvolger verschenen, getiteld “The Language Of Curiosity”. Het hart van de band wordt nog steeds gevormd door Suzy Starlite (zang, bas, toetsen) en Simon Campbell (zang, gitaren, synthesizer). De rest van de band is Steve Gibson (drums, percussie, Jonny Henderson (Hammond B3, toetsen), Gabriele Del Vecchio (toetsen) en Maria Saalfeld (castagnetten). Op het album staan tien door Suzy en Simon geschreven nummers. Het resultaat mag er zijn. De band varieert van rustige bluesnummers tot uptempo rockers. Een nummer als “Bad Time” roept herinneringen op aan de Britse blues van de jaren zestig, terwijl “Said So” een pure rocksong is met navenant scheurend gitaarwerk. Andere nummers die een speciale vermelding verdienen zijn de blues “Lay It Out On Me” en de ballad “Take Time To Grow Old”. Kortom, een prima album met uitstekende muziek. Een ware opvolger van het debuutalbum. Hopelijk hoeven we op nummer drie niet weer zo lang te wachten.

The Starlite Campbell Band is a blues band from Great Britain, that saw the light of day in early 2016. Singer, bassist and songwriter Suzy Starlite started the band Starlite in 2012, where Simon Campbell was the guitarist. Both musicians had extensive experience in various bands and as a solo artist. Simon won a British Blues Award in 2011 as best singer. Somewhere, the spark flew for both and in 2014 they married. It took five years and now the successor has appeared, entitled “The Language Of Curiosity”. The heart of the band is still formed by Suzy Starlite (vocals, bass, keys) and Simon Campbell (vocals, guitars, synthesizer). The rest of the band is Steve Gibson (drums, percussion, Jonny Henderson (Hammond B3, keys), Gabriele Del Vecchio (keys) and Maria Saalfeld (castanets). The album contains ten songs written by Suzy and Simon, ranging from quiet blues songs to uptempo rockers. A song like "Bad Time" evokes memories of the British blues of the sixties, while "Said So" is a pure rock song with correspondingly ripping guitars. Other songs that deserve a special mentioning are the blues "Lay It Out On Me" and the ballad "Take Time To Grow Old". In short, a fine album with excellent music. A true successor to the debut album. Hopefully we don't have to wait that long for number three to appear.
