Although the name Jack Wargo does not immediately mean something to everyone, this guitarist has been part of the circle of musicians in demand for several decades. He has played with Screamin' Jay Hawkins, with whom he has already visited the Netherlands, and with Hank Ballard, Billy Preston and Solomon Burke. He was part of the house band at BB King's Blues Club, played for John Fogerty and has released a number of solo albums.
His recent album "'Til The Money's Gone" contains fourteen self-written songs. Jack is accompanied by a small army of top musicians, who alternate the various musical tasks. Keyboardist John 'JT' Thomas, bassists Matt Bragg and Mike Hightower and vocalist Deb Snyder are just a few of the names. In terms of style, you can rank it somewhere between the classic blues and soul blues. The songs are pleasant to the ear. The accompanists keep things tight and swinging, the B3 provides a smooth soulful sound. Wargo is a good singer with a soulful sound and an excellent guitarist. My favorite songs are the soulful “Hang Out Your Tears”, the smoothly swinging “Relax Your Mind” and the slow blues “Deja Blues”. A fine record.
