 Een juistere titel had men voor dit album niet kunnen kiezen. Drie dagen nadat Wee Willy Walker de opnamen hiervoor had voltooid overleed hij thuis in zijn slaap. Wee Willy Walker, zo genoemd vanwege zijn lengte (1.57m) is in 1941 geboren in Hernando, Mississippi, waar hij in diverse gospelbands zong. Via Memphis kwam hij uiteindelijk terecht in Minneapolis, waar hij de rest van zijn leven bleef wonen. Zijn eerste opnamen maakte hij in 1965 en in de loop van de jaren wist hij een indrukwekkende catalogus op te bouwen.

 Walker werd gezien als een van de beste soulzangers. Dit bewijst hij zeker op zijn laatste album, dat hij op 77-jarige leeftijd opnam. Hierop wordt hij begeleid door het Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, een meer dan uitstekende band, die Walker op adequate wijze ondersteund. Op het album staan veertien tracks, de eerste is een kort interview met Walker, gevolgd door dertien mooie soul-, gospel- en soulbluesnummers. De meeste ervan zijn geschreven door Christine Vitale, Larry Batiste en Anthony Paule. Stuk voor stuk zijn het fraaie staaltjes van kunnen door zanger en band. Mijn persoonlijke favorieten zijn “Darling Mine,” “Make Your Own Good News,” en het autobiografische  “’Til You’ve Walked In My Shoes”. Prima plaat.

They couldn't have chosen a more accurate title for this album. Three days after Wee Willy Walker had finished recording he died in his sleep at home. Wee Willy Walker, so named because of his height (1.57m), was born in 1941 in Hernando, Mississippi, where he sang in various gospel bands. Via Memphis, he eventually ended up in Minneapolis, where he lived for the rest of his life. He made his first recordings in 1965 and over the years he managed to build up an impressive catalog.

 Walker was considered one of the best soul singers. He certainly proves this on his last album, which he recorded at the age of 77. He is accompanied by the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, a more than excellent band, who adequately support Walker. The album contains fourteen tracks, the first is a short interview with Walker, followed by thirteen beautiful soul, gospel and soul blues songs. Most of them were written by Christine Vitale, Larry Batiste and Anthony Paule. Each and every one of these are fine examples of the singer and band's ability. My personal favorites are "Darling Mine," "Make Your Own Good News," and the autobiographical "'Til You've Walked In My Shoes." Great record.
