Vandaag verschijnt Romantic, het nieuwe album van Nina Kinert via V2 Records.Het is een manifest van wat schrijven en muziek in het algemeen voor haar betekende. Het thema van het album is gebaseerd op de verschillende aspecten van romantiek. Liedjes over ware liefde en mystiek, gevoeligheid over gevoel, ziel over intellect, natuur over God, nostalgie en 19de-eeuwse poëzie zoals Baudelaire en Shelley.
Na een album dat draaide om Star Wars en een andere over eeuwigheid, brengt de uit Stockholm afkomstige singer/songwriter Nina Kinert op 11 mei 2018 een nieuw album uit. Zwanger zijn, baren en daarna een baby krijgen was een andere droom, een andere reis die Nina de rest van haar leven zal doormaken. "Het is primitief om een ouder te worden, maar toch spiritueel. Heel dramatisch soms, maar altijd heel romantisch. Als ik mezelf laat gaan en mijn dochter volg, laat ze me de wereld zien. Zolang als ik haar kan beschermen, zal ze me wild houden."
Dit proces en deze reis in haar hart en geest brachten Nina terug naar de absolute kern van haar kunstenaarschap, het romantische thema kwam vanzelf. Ze veranderde haar naam terug naar Nina Kinert, van de snelle en sublieme naam Nina K, die ze voor On Ice (2015) en verschillende samenwerkingen rond die tijd gebruikte. Ze hield ook op bang te zijn om een 'singer/songwriter' te worden genoemd en begon alle nummers op haar kapotte piano te schrijven (midden C vermijdend).
Het thema romantiek werd zelfs tijdens het hele opnameproces het leidende licht. Bij twijfel, ga voor de meest romantische keuze. Dit leidde tot arrangementen met piano, harpen, fluiten en snaren (Saxofoon? Nee, dat is sexy, niet romantisch.) Romantic bevat ook de single "Chapped Lips" - gezongen samen met Sam T Herring van Future Islands.
Het album is geproduceerd door jazzmuzikant en renaissance-man, Daniel Fagerström (The Skull Defekts, Optic Nest enz.) en gemasterd door Heba Kadry (Björk, Beach House enz.). Het manifest van Romantic wordt verklaard in het openingsnummer. Een pianoballad over de keuze hoe je wilt sterven - bij voorkeur in de armen van wie je houdt, op een strand, bij een ondergaande zon.

After one album revolving around Star Wars and another about eternity the Stockholm songstress and songwriteress Nina Kinert will release a new full length album in May 2018.
Nina Kinerts new album ROMANTIC is a manifesto of what her songwriting, and music in general, has meant to her. The album’s theme is based on romanticism, in several aspects. Songs about true love and mysticism, sensibility over sense, soul over intellect, nature over God, nostalgia and 19th century poetry like Baudelaire and Shelley (Nina even named her daughter after one of them. Not Baudelaire).
”The songwriting was majorly triggered by two factors” Nina says. ”Having a baby and going to New Zealand. I visited a place of my dreams – the beach from Jane Campions movie The Piano. I was 10 when I saw that film, and I desperately wanted to be just any of the characters. I was so happy someone once told me I looked like Anna Paquin who played Holly Hunters daughter, haha. I learned how to play Michael Nymans classic main theme to be able to actually feel it physically. Coming to New Zealand made me feel not only like a part of that film, but as a part of nature -wild and free as it can be when we let it.”
Being pregnant with, giving birth to and then having a baby was another dream, a different journey Nina will be on for the rest of her life. ”It’s primitive becoming a parent, yet spiritual. Very dramatic at times, very romantic all the time. When I let myself go and follow my daughter, she shows me the world. If I can keep her safe, she will keep me wild.”
This process and journey in her heart and mind took Nina back to the absolute core of her artistry and the romantic theme came naturally. She changed her name back to Nina Kinert, from the swift and sublime moniker Nina K she used for On Ice (2015) and several collaborations around that time. She also stopped being afraid of being labeled a “singer/songwriter” and started writing all songs on her broken piano (avoiding middle C).
The theme became a guiding light even throughout the whole recording process. When in doubt, go for the most romantic choice. This lead to arrangements with piano, harps, flutes and strings (Saxophone? No, that’s sexy, not romantic.) ROMANTIC also includes the single “Chapped Lips” – sung together with Sam T Herring from Future Islands. It’s produced by jazz-metal musician/renaissance man Daniel Fagerström (The Skull Defekts, Optic Nest etc) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Björk, Beach House etc).
The manifesto of ROMANTIC is declared in the opening track. A piano ballad about choosing how you want to die – preferably in the arms of whom you love, at a beach, by a setting sun.
