Denemarken lijkt misschien niet de logische broedplaats voor een bluesband, maar zeg dat maar eens tegen Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado! Oprichter Risager groeide op met twee muziekleraren als ouders; het was raar geweest als hij zelf níet meerdere instrumenten had opgepakt. Hij ontdekte als late tiener de muziek van B.B. King en Ray Charles en zong al tijden de blues toen hij werd aangenomen op het conservatorium in Kopenhagen.

De belangrijkste roots-rockers van Denemarken, Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado, hebben een officiële videoclip uitgebracht voor "Navigation Blues", het titelnummer van hun nieuwe album, dat op 30 september verschijnt via Provogue / Mascot Label Group. Een sepia-getinte vooroorlogse blues-stomp die Risager doet verlangen naar: "Vrachtwagens vol duisternis hier, en mijn lucifers zijn drijfnat ... zal deze zwarte nacht ooit eindigen", het nummer draait een onheilspellend verhaal over verloren zijn in een afgrond, zonder richting huis. "Soms werkt je gps gewoon niet en zijn je kaarten verscheurd en weet je niet wat je moet doen of waar je heen moet", blikt Thorbjørn terug.

'Live From The Pool' took place at the swimming pool of the abandoned Auderød military camp in North Zealand near Copenhagen, Denmark. Designed by the world-famous architect Henning Larsen this defunct building has become part of the Auderød nature park. A place where nature encounters the mysteries of a once existing military base, ready to be explored.

Eerder dit jaar verscheen het album ‘Faerd’ van de Deense band the Ole Frimer Band. Een album, waar ik behoorlijk blij van werd. Mede door de mix van blues, rock en fusion, die de band op dat album hanteerde.

Nu is er een livealbum, dat werd opgenomen tijdens het Eppingen Jazz Festival in 2019.
