Reverend Raven & Westside Andy return with Way Back Home, a swinging collection of blues rooted firmly in the tradition and delivered with the passion, grit, and musical chemistry that have made the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys a Midwest favorite for decades.
Born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, Reverend Raven has been playing the blues since 1971, drawing inspiration from legends including Freddie King, Slim Harpo, Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers, Billy Boy Arnold, Junior Wells and the Three Kings. Since 2015, Wisconsin harmonica ace Westside Andy Linderman has been an integral part of the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys, bringing his powerful, virtuosic harp to the band’s unmistakable sound.
His tone and phrasing have earned praise from some of the top blues artists and critics.
Way Back Home marks the first Reverend Raven recording to feature Andy on every track. Joining them are longtime Altar Boys P.T. Pedersen (bass) and Craig Panosh (drums), with Dennis Wade adding piano and keyboards.
Way Back Home is both a celebration of the band’s three decades together and a collection of fan favorites they had never previously recorded. A couple of originals sit alongside inspired takes on classic blues cuts, all driven by Rev’s steady boogies and shuffles, soulful vocals, and Andy’s distinctive harmonica work. This is a swinging set of tunes built for the dance floor.
