Abnormal Conditions, the fifth full-length album by upstate New York roots rockers Frank Migliorelli & The Dirt Nappers, which is scheduled for release on August 7 2026 on Rave On Productions.
Recorded at The Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY, the band unleashes a more immediate live feel to the collection, while maintaining the vintage vibe and pop sensibility that has been the bedrock of their rock n’ roll DNA for over a decade!
“I never thought we could pull a record like this off - we rehearsed the new tunes one week, then cranked out the tracks in the recording studio in a two day period,” says songwriter Frank Migliorelli - “it was pretty intense and really has a great live feel to it”. In addition, a few friends dropped by to lend some vocal help, including songwriter Marshall Crenshaw, Tania Elizabeth (Avett Brothers, The Duhks) on vocals and fiddle, Soozie Tyrell and Lisa Lowell (both long-time members of Bruce Springsteen’s band).
| Michigan” is the first single from Frank Migliorelli and The Dirt Nappers’ fifth release, “Abnormal Conditions” on indie label Rave On Productions ▼ |
Abnormal Conditions is the fifth release by the band-following up on their 2019 album The Things You Left Behind and a Covid era kids music project entitled We’re Not Kidding Around.
The Dirt Nappers feature a variety of seasoned players - Thad Debrock on guitars (Duncan Sheik, Judy Collins), Dan Weiss on keys (Joan Osborne), Tony Tino on bass (Asbury Jukes, Gavin DeGraw), and Tom Segusa on drums (Asbury Jukes). Also returning to the line-up on backing vocals is Sherryl Marshall who was a member of David Johansen/Buster Poindexter’s Banshees of Blue.
Abnormal Conditions showcases the band’s ability to traverse styles of music while crafting song hooks and stories that catch the listener’s ear via ‘She’s Been Waiting Forever’, a country flavoured duet with Tania Elizabeth, the reggae trance feel of ‘Year of Living Dangerously’ and of course some classic Dirt Nappers’ 60’s/Nick Lowe-influenced jukebox songs like ‘Ever Since You Went Away’ and ‘She’ll Wait to Hear the Heartbeat’. Contrastingly, ‘Michigan’, the first single from the album, is a full on band anthem to the home of Motown and muscle cars, while ‘Fire Road’ is a driving political commentary on the abnormal state of the world we are all living in. “I think this is the best sounding Dirt Napper record to date,” says Migliorelli, “while we definitely still have the classic vibe, this new record has a live energy that really captures what these amazing musicians sound like when you hear them live.”
The album was mastered by Scott Anthony (David Gilmour, Beastie Boys, Yarn) at Storybook Sound.
