Anita Nordheim Blues n’ Groove Company plays blues- and groove music as it is meant to be played.
In an era dominated by glossy pop and digital sound sources, Anita Nordheim’s Blues n’ Groove Company offers a refreshing alternative. The band’s infectious energy quickly spread to audiences in concert venues and at festivals following their formation in 2019, but the coronavirus outbreak brought live performances to a sudden halt. So frontwoman, vocalist and saxophonist Anita Nordheim took the rest of the band into the studio instead. The songwriters are Anita Nordheim and Tore Kvalvik.
We’ve chosen to open the album with two songs that are stylistically very different. ‘Despite’ is groovy and has a swing rhythm that really gets your feet tapping. ‘The House’, on the other hand, is a slower blues track where the whole band is given free rein, and where my fellow musicians really get to show just how incredibly talented they are. I feel incredibly privileged to be fronting some of the most experienced and talented musicians we have in Norway.
Anita Nordheim Blues n’ Groove Company is based in Bergen, where several of the band members live, whilst vocalist and saxophonist Anita Nordheim is based in the industrial town of Høyanger. The four band members came together as a result of a shared interest in blues, groove and soul music.
As a band, we stand on the shoulders of giants from music history, and our philosophy is to play unpretentious music that is 100% free of unnecessary frills and distractions. Our songs are meant to strike a chord with listeners, and the response we’ve received at gigs has exceeded all expectations. Now, of course, we hope to connect with audiences through our recorded music.
With the release of ‘Curious’ and ‘Fools’, Anita Nordheim Blues n’ Groove Company has taken yet another step forward as a band and has brought in a horn section.
The band releases new tracks on an ongoing basis, and the album ‘Despite’ has received good reviews.
